SFC (Ret.) James Anthony Geddis, 73, of Phenix City, AL passed Thursday, April 27, 2023 in Phenix City, AL.
Funeral service will be held 12 noon EST, Monday, May 8, 2023 in the C.T. Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Hurbert Newsome, officiating. Burial to follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. Visitation is Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 2-5 p.m. EST.
SFC (Ret.) James Anthony Geddis was born October 20, 1949 to the late Joe Geddis and the late Mary Geddis.
James confessed Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was a member of Canaan A.M.E Church in Crawford, AL until his passing.
He was educated in the Muscogee County School District and was a 1969 graduate of Carver High School in Columbus, GA. He received his post secondary education at Pike Peak Community College in Colorado Springs, Colorado and obtained his Associates Degree from Columbus College.
SFC (Ret) Geddis joined the United States army in September of 1969 and retired after completing 30 years of dedicated and honorable service in 2000. During his military career he received several awards and accolades. He served in various positions throughout his career to include Drill Sergeant, Airborne and various First Sergeant postions.
He was a faithful member of Canaan A.M.E Church in Crawford, AL for many years serving in various positions to include a dedicated and faithful deacon.
Those left to cherish his memories is his wife of 53 years, Sandra Geddis, Crawford, AL; son, Marcus (Lakeitha) Geddis, Columbus, GA; daughter, Jasolyn Geddis, Crawford, AL; grandaughters, Sheila Adams, Crawford, AL, Lakendria, Ashley and Diamond Geddis all of Columbus, GA; grandsons, Marcus and James Geddis both of Columbus, GA; five great grandsons; siblings, Johnny Edward Geddis, Atlanta, GA, Albert Cook, Key West, FL, Jesse (Johnny Mae) Smith, Lithonia, GA, Larry Smith, Crawford, AL, Martha (Orie) Weeks, Ladonia, AL and Clara (James) Griffin, Petersburg, VA; special friend of many years, John Cameron and a host of other relatives and friends.
My childhood neighbor, my HS classmate and friend. He was known in the community, friendly and a persona of determination. My deepest condolences and sympathy to tge family and loved ones...I'm sure he's already missed.Gods solace spring your time of bereavement and for years to come. My heart is broken; I love you so much. Thank You for pushing me and training me to become a great soldier.
