Mrs. Gloria Jean Carter, 75, of Phenix City, AL passed Saturday, October 8, 2022 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. EST, Friday, October 21, 2022 at Franchise Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Raymond Cochran, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday, October 20, 2022 from 1-5 p.m. EST.
Mrs. Gloria Jean Carter was born February 18, 1947 in Columbus, GA to the late Roosevelt Redd, Sr. and the late Lora Redd.
She was a proud product of Central Girard Elementary and South Girard High School. Gloria wrote an essay about, Why she likes to listen to Radio Station WCLS in 20 words or less she won first place for her essay.
She also established "The Lora Redd Memorial Scholarship" at Bethel A.M.E Church in Pittsburgh, PA.
She was a very faithful member and supporter of the Jones and Redd family reunions.
Gloria also enjoyed attending the Tuskegee/Morehouse Football Classic. She supported and attended the Blue and Gold Ball held yearly at the Columbus Trade Center.
Gloria was a faithful member of Franchise Missionary Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL where she participated in Feed the Hungry Mission, Pastors Aide and Sunday school.
She continued supporting the community while working as a Contact Representative for the Social Security Administration, Columbus, GA for 45 years.
Gloria was preceded in death by her father, Roosevelt Redd, Sr.; mother, Lora Redd and brother, Roosevelt Redd, Jr.
Survivors include one son, Mark Carter of Columbus, GA; brother, Julius (Annette) Redd of Pittsburgh, PA; sister-in-law, Irma Redd of Bellwood, IL; niece, Sherice Redd of South Holland, IL; nephew, Roosevelt (Myra) Redd, III of Jacksonville, FL; great nieces, Kennedy Weathers and Noelle Redd; great nephews, Kenneth Weathers and Elijah Redd and best and dear friend, Gladys Tillmon of Columbus, GA.
