Obituary For Frances Chaney

Mrs. Frances P. Chaney, 97, of Griffin, GA passed Friday, October 21, 2022 in Griffin, GA.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. EST, Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at Shady Grove CME Church in Salem, AL with Rev. William Drummond, Pastor, officiating and Rev. Larry Threatts, eulogist. Interment to follow in Pleasant Hill A.M.E Church Cemetery in Salem, AL. Visitation is Monday, October 31, 2022 from 2-5 p.m. EST.

Ms. Frances Phillips-Chaney was born March 30, 1925 in Lee County, AL to the late Fannie Mae Phillips and Willie Harrison. Ms. Chaney was a faithful lifetime member of the Shady Grove C.M.E Church serving until her health failed.

She worked for Cobb Memorial Hospital for over 30 years until retirement. Her favorite things to do when she was not working were fishing, cooking, and spending time with family.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joanne Celeste Bass; parents; a devoted stepfather, Bud Philips and five siblings.

She leaves to cherish her memories three grandchildren, Willie James Bass, Jr. “Joey” of Atlanta Georgia, Minister Frances Nicole Bass “Nikki” of Phenix City Alabama and Jacqueline Harris “Jackie” (Oscar) of Midland Georgia; three great-grandchildren, Shannon Nicole Bass “Shay”, Alexandria Celeste Butler “Alex” (Marcus) and Rachel Lynne Bass “Rae”; one great-great-grandchild, Calvin Alexander Butler; one aunt, Annie Mae Hodge, a host of cousins and loved ones Cassandra “Fay” Bass, Cal Thomas and the entire Shady Grove C.M.E. Church family
