“A child full of life, young and energetic…so pleasant and polite and always greeted you with a smile.”
D’Miya’s journey began on December 7, 2010 in Columbus, Georgia. She was affectionately known by her family and friends as “Baby” or “MiyaPooh”.
She attended church at Greater Mount Zion. She was intelligent and excelled as an honor student at Ridgecrest Elementary School. She enjoyed making TikTok videos.
She loved her family with whom she created many memories to be cherished as she was the sweet, loving daughter of her parents, Darrell and Kimberly Mathes; the energetic, playful sister of Erin Thomas, Jakaila Mathes and Derrien Mathes; the respectful, caring granddaughter of Joe C. and Pamela Mathes, Phyllis Sanders and David Sanders; the precious niece of Lakesia Mathes, Jonathan Mathes and Gertheia (Antwain) Gales. Her sweet memories will also be cherished by Great-Grandparents, Willie Forte, Minnie Pearle Day Mathes and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Extending my prayers to Darrell, Kim, Buke, Derrien, Jakaila, Kesia, Jon, & Family. May God wrap his loving arms around your family giving you peace that surpasses thine own understanding. It was a joy to watch D'Miya grow from a little girl in Greater Mt. Zion to a beautiful little lady so full of life. When the choir would sing she would stand up, clap her hands, & sing with them. D'Miya was so sweet everytime you saw her in church with her Grandmother Mrs. Phyllis she was always smiling. To the family, everyone loved D'Miya but the Lord loved her best. He picked this precoius little girl to become a loving angel in heaven to watch over her family. R.I.H D'MIYA❤😇❤😇❤TaKeitha Morgan

Loving, Kind, Sweet, Campassionate are just a few words to describe D'Miya. She was one of the most loving students I knew. My most fondiest memory of D'Miya was days when she would sit in the back office, hide from me and wait for her mom to pick her up. (lol) We often met at the salon to get "get pretty" for the week. She will always be in my heart. I am praying for your family. ~Veatrice Thomas, Principal at Ridgecrest Elementary School
D'Miya was one of the sweetest babies that I have ever met. She would come to my office and say "My mom is coming to get me. Can I stay up here with you." I would say "Yes Miya but stay in the back so Mrs. Thomas won't see you!" lol She had a smile that would light up any room especially at Ridgecrest! She will forever be loved, and missed. Sending Prayers, Love, and Peace to you all! Love, Kenyetta Gosha
