Obituary For Cynthia Denise Williams

Mrs. Cynthia Denise Williams, 64, of Columbus, GA passed Tuesday, September 19, 2023 in Atlanta, GA.

Funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. EST, Thursday, September 28, 2023 at New Destiny Church, Columbus, GA with Pastor Dequindrae Hardnett, officiating. Interment will follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. Visitation is Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 1-5 p.m. EST.

It was a joyous day on September 2, 1959, and Heaven rejoiced when Cynthia Denise Cannon Williams was born to the late Robert Lee Cannon, Jr. and Annie Ruth Williams Cannon in Lee County, Alabama. After the passing of her mother, she was raised by her aunt and uncle the late Claudia Mae Williams Cannon and the late John Lewis Cannon, Sr.

On September 19, 2023, God’s angels whispered in Cynthia’s ear, “It’s time for you to take your rest”. She departed this life at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, GA

At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. Later, uniting and worshipping at New Destiny Church, where she was a faithful and dedicated member for several years and served as a church greeter.

She matriculated through the Lee County School District System and graduated from Beauregard High School, Beauregard, AL May 30, 1977.

She received her Associate of Science Degree from Phillips College in Business Administration.

In addition to being an affectionate wife, mother, and grandmother, she worked at Ampex in Opelika, AL for 19 years.

Cynthia was joined in Holy Matrimony to Walter Williams, Sr. on May 22, 1988.

Other than her parents, Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Williams, Sr.; brothers, Eddie B. Cannon, Jimmy Lee Cannon, Mack Arthur Cannon, Milton Cannon and John Lewis Cannon, Jr.; nephews, Desmond C. Stinson and Canon Howard; niece, Tequelia M. Cannon; uncles and aunts.

She will be truly missed. Her legacy of selfless, loving, kind ways will continue through her family.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories her beloved sons, Marcus M. Reese and Marlon J. (Jaleesa Johnson) Reese both of Columbus, GA; treasured grandson, Mikko Reese; precious granddaughter, Maliyah Reese both of Columbus, GA; devoted twin brother, Donald (Valerie) Cannon of Auburn, AL; loving sisters, Kathleen Bullard of Birmingham, AL, Juanita (Clarence) Penn of Auburn, AL, and Mary Jo Lowery of Columbus, GA; caring sister-in-law, Daphne Hill Cannon of Columbus, GA; special friend, Jovita Davis of Columbus, GA; loving aunts, Geraldine (Zack) Reese and Mary Williams both of Opelika, AL; caring nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Cynthia loved spending time with her family, she adored her grandchildren, and got great joy out of being a part of their life events. She enjoyed traveling, laughing, and dancing. As a woman of faith, she ALWAYS put God first, she trusted the Lord in every aspect of her life. She was truly a Phenomenal Woman. She touched us all. Her light will shine in all our hearts forever.
