Mr. Curtis James Richardson, 62, passed Tuesday, March 26, 2024 in Phenix City, AL.
Graveside service will be held 12:30 p.m. EST, Friday April 5, 2024 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Rev. Josh Blanding officiating.
Curtis James Richardson was born on January 22, 1962, in Nuremberg, Germany to the late Oscar Richardson and the late Emma Richardson. He was the second oldest of five children. Curtis departed his life on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Richardson and Emma Richardson.
Curtis grew up in Phenix City, Alabama and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Hatchechubbee, Alabama. He graduated from Central High School in 1980 and joined the United States Army in 1982. He served his country for 20 years and retired in January 2002. His extended services carried him overseas to Korea, Germany and many places in the United States including Colorado, Alaska, Tennessee, and Alabama.
While serving in the military he earned an Associate of Arts in Arts Management from the University of Maryland, a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education from Wayland Baptist University, and a Master of Business Administration in Aviation from Emory Aeronautical University. In the military, he received many awards and decorations including: two Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, five Army Achievement Medals, six Army Good Conduct Medals, and a National Defense Service Medal. Curtis later started a second career as a restaurant manager.
Curtis was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a beloved brother and uncle. Curtis loved to spend time with his family and his favorite past time was grilling for his loved ones. It brought him joy to cook for his family and he was known for having the best ribs.
Curtis leaves behind a devoted wife, Deatrice Richardson of many years; three loving children, Janay Wright (Javis), Shanquisha Richardson, and Mariah Richardson; one granddaughter who was his whole heart, Olivia Wright; three cherished sisters, Rita Alexander (William), Tonoa Richardson, and Jeannette Bunkley; three brothers, Danny Richardson (Cynthia), Kenneth Richardson (Sheila), and Jeffrey Richardson; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

While we never had the pleasure of meeting in person, Curtis was always so kind to me ever since the moment I befriended his daughter. Through those short phone calls, I was able to witness what it looked to be a good man and an even better father. May he rest peacefully ๐.

My friendship with Curtis was during the time that his mother, his aunt and mother were all working at Sol-and-Harry in the 70's. We all had an opportunity to wear the latest summer or winter outfits. Photos were taken of us to be advertised during commercial on the local television. Curtis rest in peace. Toney Perry
