Claudette Coar (affectionately known as Betty) was born June 27, 1942 in Bleeker, Alabama to John Roby Coar, Jr. and Laura Bell Cook Coar. She graduated from South Girard High School in 1961 (where she was a “high stepping” majorette); she later received a degree from Troy State University. Claudette’s love and concern for children led her to a career in education where she was instrumental in molding the lives of early elementary students.
Leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness, Claudette walked through life with a gentle strength, touching the lives of everyone she encountered with unforgettable grace. Claudette’s role as a mother to two daughters (Bonita and Michelle) further highlights her nurturing spirit. She created a loving environment where they consistently felt supported and cherished. Her kindness and genuine concern for others and calm demeanor was known to spread joy, encouragement, and provide emotional support to those around her.
Claudette, an independent, strong and intelligent woman who adored her family, was often referred to as, the “heart and soul” of the family. Claudette, the embodiment of selflessness, loved cooking (her love language), which speaks volumes about her character and dedication to family. She nourished the body and the spirit of togetherness through food and the importance of family bonds.
Leaving behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Bonita Coar Walker (Anthony), Ramona Michelle Pruitt (Benjamin “Skip”); three grandchildren, Joshua Michael Walker, Lauren Michelle Walker, and Miles Julian Pruitt; one great-grandson, Ronan Benjamin Pruitt; one sister, Laura Jean Price of Littleton, NC and one brother, John R “Bill” Coar, III (Patsy), of Phenix City, AL; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Ms Betty as I knew her was my neighbor for several years. I grew up knowing her family and vice-versa and Ms Betty was always nice to me. I knew her daughters (Bonita and Michelle) quite well and i recall Ms Betty dropping us off and picking us up at concerts at the Columbus auditorium several times. Condolences to the family and Gods Grace and Mercy be with you all 🙏
