Obituary For Bertha Lee Jackson

Mrs. Bertha Lee Jackson, 82, of Phenix City, AL passed Saturday, May 27, 2023 in Phenix City, AL.

Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. EST, Saturday June 3, 2023 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL with Dr. Patrick T. Brown, pastor, officiating. Burial to follow in church cemetery. Visitation is Friday, June 2, 2023 from 1-5 p.m. EST.

A time to be born: Sister Bertha “Bert” Lee Jackson, daughter of the late Willie and the late Ida Mae Jackson, was born on February 7, 1941 in Phenix City, AL. She was the eighth sibling of ten children born to this union.
A time to serve: Sister Bert gave her life to Christ in 1987 and joined Mount Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. W.L. Lewis. She was a constant presence and dedicated member who served on Usher Board #1 for many years and as a Women's Day Captain until the Lord called her home.
A time to work: Sister Bert was employed at Southern Phenix Textile Mill with more than 25 years of service. After retirement, she dedicated her life to being the matriarch of her family. She enjoyed cooking, decorating, shopping, working in the yard, and talking on the phone.
A time to depart: On Saturday, May 27, 2023, while surrounded by family in her home, our God summoned her to eternal rest. Preceding her in death is her husband, Clyde Watkins; one son, Steven Jackson; along with five brothers, Johnny Jackson, Lamar Jackson, Sylvester Jackson, George Jackson, and Mackie Jackson; two sisters, Arena "Sang" Dickerson and Mattie Jackson Williams.
A time to cherish: Sister Bert was a mother to many. Those left to cherish her precious memories are two daughters, Judy Grier and Andrea "Tracye" (Michael) Kimber of Phenix City, AL; one son, James Jackson of Phenix City, AL; two brothers, Edgar Jackson of Phenix City, AL and Allen Jackson of Buffalo, NY; two sisters-in-law, Bessie Jackson of Phenix City, AL and Rochelle Jackson of Buffalo, NY; two nephews she raised as her sons, David Preer of Phenix City, AL and Thomas Adams of Buffalo, NY; devoted granddaughters, Samadra (Christopher) Howard of Phenix City, AL, Yalonda (Tyshun) Thompson of Covington, GA, Celestia (Michael) Wood of Augusta, GA, Kia, Kira and Kayla Kimber of Phenix City, AL; devoted grandsons, Anthony Grier and Cantrell (Tiffany) Grier of Phenix City, AL; nieces she raised as her daughters, Angela and Angelina Dickerson, Phenix City, AL; good friends, Janice (Rickey) Grant and Julia Mae Warthaw; special cousins Bettye Brown, Marian and Martha Jenkins, and Dorothy Ann Spivey; and a host of other grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
