Mrs. Barbara F. Mansfield known as "Mom", "Grandma" or "Mansy" by her friends, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ as the morning dew settled onto the grass, October 5, 2022.
She was born December 17, 1938 in Phenix City, AL to the late Walter Fegan and Ethel Alexander.
A graduate of Mother Mary Mission, Barbara attended Albany State University, Albany, GA where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Childhood Education. She cheered ASU Golden Rams at most of the annual Fountain City Classics. She loved teaching and taught in Alabama, Georgia, Maryland and Kansas.
A life-long member of Nichols Chapel A.M.E Church where she was baptized and worked tirelessly in support of the church by volunteering on a myriad of committees, boards, and ministries to include the Women’s Missionary and Trustee Ministry. She believed in the power of prayer and she lived a life that displayed her belief that Jesus was her Savior.
Married to a career service member, Barbara left her beloved Phenix City and traveled the nation supporting her husband, Colonel Tommy M. Mansfield, who passed in 1975. Upon his death, she returned to the area with her two children, La’Tanja Mitchelle and Eric Lemoine to restart their new normal as a family.
Although challenging, she enjoyed reuniting with her church, her family and her friends. She stretched her wings and dabbled in the business arena as the manager of Jones Florist. She believed in supporting her community and joined several national organizations such as the American Legion, Order of the Eastern Star and American Business Women’s Association (charter member) to fulfill her goals.
As an only child, Mrs. Mansfield had an array of friends and family that she cultivated deep and lifelong relationships. She loved to dress, dance, cook cakes and pies and could decorate a house with extraordinary style. Her smile was as bright as the afternoon sun and lit up every room she entered.
Her dear friend and compassionate care companion, Sandy Barnett, preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter, LaTanja M. Moragne (Jeffrey) of Fredericksburg, VA; one son, Rev. Dr. Eric L. Mansfield of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren, Alexandria Moragne, Erica Mansfield, Destinee’ Moragne and Thomas Mansfield; one brother-in-law, Luther G. Mansfield (Ruth); one sister-in-law, Mae Francis Mansfield and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Our Sweet Cousin Barbara we will miss you dearly. Your smile always lit up the room whenever you entered a room. We also loved your sweet Spirit, the love you had for God. We will always hold your sweet memories in our heart. This is not Goodbye, it's See You Later. All our Love. Muttie and Joycee
