Attorney James Curtiss Bernard, 78, of Columbus, GA passed Friday, May 6, 2022 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 12:00 noon EST in the C.T Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Desmond Scaife officiating. Interment will follow in Green Acres Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.
James Curtiss Bernardโs earthly journey ended on Friday, May 6, 2022. He was born January 8, 1944 in Phenix City, Alabama to the late Osie Walton and Leila P. Walton.
He attended public school in the Phenix City and Muscogee County School Districts. After graduating from high school, he continued his educational goal by receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree from Tuskegee Institute, a Masterโs Degree in Systems and Management from the University of Southern California and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in Law from Samford University.
James served honorably in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Captain working in conjunction with the Ballistic Missile Crew Staff/Missile Launch Officer Crew/Space System Operation Officer Crew/ and Surveillance Officer Crew. After leaving the armed forces, he became a member of the Alabama State Bar Association, and practiced law in the State of Alabama for over 40 years. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.
He was married to Lillia H. Bernard and they had two loving, respectful, kind, and caring children, Erica LaShawn Fox and Curtiss James Bernard and four beautiful, adorable, joyful, compassionate grandchildren, Gabrielle Simone Fox, Gavin Alexander Fox, Kolton James Bernard, and Kampbell Ariee Bernard.
James C. Bernard was an ordained minister affiliated with various churches during his spiritual journey as a Christian. Teaching Bible Study and Sunday School were his greatest joy and passion. The parents of James C. Bernard preceded him in death.
Bernard leaves to cherish many heartfelt memories: his former wife, Lillia H. Bernard, his children, Erica (Norbert) Fox of Columbus, Georgia; Curtiss (Kheela) Bernard of Peachtree Corners, Georgia; four grandchildren, Gabrielle, Gavin, Kolton and Kampbell; sister, Eugenia (Lawyer) Murray of Augusta, Georgia and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends (especially Freddie Hayes of Phenix City, Alabama).
I offer my sincere condolences to the family and all who were touched by, my friend James Curtis Bernard. He lived as God calls us all to live, "LOVE THY NEIGHBOR!"
He helped so many young males, two of whom are my sons. He attended school with my sister and cared about her. He helped so many families and those in need, all for no charge! He was a great man who served others and our Country. And, I honor, my friend, James Curtis Bernard, you are an Angel. Rest in heavenly peace, and I know we will all see, you again.
