Angiela Gail Tanzie, 65, passed Friday, June 7, 2024 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. EST, Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church with Rev. Gerald Rowe, Pastor and Rev. Gordon Marshall, officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. EST on Monday, June 17, 2024 at Fort Moore Main Post Cemetery. Public viewing will be Friday, June 14, 2024 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. EST.
A TIME TO BE BORN: Sister Angiela Gail Tanzie was born in Bastrop, Louisiana on March 26, 1959. She was the eldest of seven children of the late Thomas and Eloise Slater.
A TIME TO LEARN: Sister Tanzie attended Morehouse Parish County Schools for her primary and secondary education. She graduated from Bastrop High School in 1977 and graduated from Grambling State University in 1982 with a Bachelorβs degree in Marketing. Sister Tanzie attended Columbus College in 1989 for Teacher Preparatory Training. She graduated from Troy State University in 1992 with a Master Degree in Education. Sister Tanzie graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Arizona in 2022, with a Master of Arts from the Biological Psychology Program.
A TIME TO LOVE: Angiela met her true love, William Earl Tanzie in 1974. After a long courtship, the two were united in Holy Matrimony on October 4, 1981. They were blessed with three wonderful children NiChaundrea Rynetta, William II, and VaShonda Nicole. The angel of God called William home to rest on January 7, 2007.
A TIME TO GIVE: Sister Tanzie was a true believer in giving back to the community and creating opportunities for student success. She believed that a studentβs success is elevated by an understanding of how math is constant in an ever-changing world and by the willingness to be a lifelong learner. Sister Tanzie was a retired educator of the Muscogee County Schools, which she dedicated 30 plus years as a mathematician, cheer and dance coach, the founder of 706MathQueen which focuses on making MATHMATTER, Emeritus of RWV RESIDENTIAL, owned and operated by her children. Sister Tanzie was currently the Math Intervention specialist of MLK Elementary School in Columbus, Georgia. Sister Tanzie served on the Executive Board of Faith Home For Girls, Inc. as well as a member of The Order of Eastern Star.
A TIME TO SERVE: Sister Tanzie confessed Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age. She was a member of Allen Temple in Columbus, Georgia.
A TIME TO BE MOURNED: Friday, June 7, 2024, at her home in Columbus, GA the angel of God came into her room and quietly allowed her to rest from 65 years of service. God came to take this bright light home as a reward for His labor. Sister Tanzie was the wife of the late William Earl Tanzie who preceded her in death on January 7, 2007. She was also predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Eloise Slater; brother, Larry Haynes. Sister Tanzie is survived by her three loving devoted children, NiChaundrea, William II, and Vashonda; six sisters, Veronica Robinson (Troy), Ezorine Brandon Jones (Gary), Ireatha Slater Harris, Brenda Slater Jones (James), Vivian Fenison (Roger), and Abbie Hatfield; eight brother, Terry Haynes (Lylanda), Thomas Slater Jr. (Lilly), Ladelle Hatfield (Michelle), Kip Hatfield (Bernadette), Troy Hatfield (Tiffany), Robert Hatfield (Sheneka), Thomas Earl Slater, and Alvin Slater (LaTrina); two uncles, Hayward Brandon and Henry Brandon; a loving mother in law, Gladys Reese; five sisters and brothers- in-law, Willie Mae Hall (Michael), Lashona Thomas (Charles), Annisha Williams (Jeff), Winfred Tanzie (Glenda), and Lillian Jeffries; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

I've been knowing this sweet lady for over 20 years. I'm speechless as this was so sudden and unexpected. To the family, please be comforted in knowing that such a beautiful soul is now resting with the Lord.

Mrs. Tanzie always shedded words of "light", while and after we worked together at Marshall Middle School. My last conversation with her was about a mother's never-yielding support of her off-springs!
