Atlanta, GA - Maxine D. Gainous, 74, transitioned on Sunday, September 10, 2023.
She was born March 3, 1949 to the late King Phillip and Luberta Gainous. She was a member of Tallahassee Maranatha Seventh-Day Adventist Church where she served faithfully until her illness.
Maxine graduated from Lincoln High School in 1967. She was employed by the State of Florida Department of Education for more than 30 years.
Treasuring her love and legacy are her son, Shannon Ferrell (Kelli), her grandchildren, Bryce Ferrell, Justin Ferrell, and Nyasha Ferrell, all of Atlanta, GA; her siblings, Phillip Gainous, (Gainesville, FL); Alfred Gainous (Earnestine), Benjamin Gainous (Paulette); Paulette Gordon and Kevin Gainous (Sherese), all of Tallahassee, FL; Paula Gainous (Apopka, FL); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Erika Ferrell, her parents, King Phillip and Luberta S. Gainous and a brother, Donald Gainous.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 3pm to 6pm at Strong & Jones Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 11am on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Clifford Hill Cemetery.
She was a beautiful woman both inside and out. Her daughter, Erica, was a life long childhood friend to with sister, Karena. Erica, eventually became my second lil sister. I always thought of her as my sister but her mother was like a second mom to me. Erica gained her wings and now Ms. Gainous has hers. God bless this entire family.
