Stone Funeral Home announces with deepest sympathy the passing of Mr. Joseph Shook Jr of Palm Bay Florida. Joseph “Joe” William Shook Jr., 79, of Melbourne, Florida, passed away on April 3, 2023.
The funeral service will be held at 2 pm on June 7, 2023 at The Baltimore National Cemetery, 5501 Frederick Ave, Catonsville, MD 21228.
Joe was born in Baltimore, Maryland on December 20, 1943 to Joseph William Shook Sr. and Dorothy F. Shook (nee Davis). He attended City High School. He enlisted in the Marine Corp when he was a senior in high school and earned his GED through the Marine Corp. He completed boot camp at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and then was stationed in Cuba at Guantanamo Bay. His duty assignment there was as a "Turn-key" (a prison guard) at the stockade. He was at Guantanamo Bay during the “Bay of Pigs” incident in 1961. He proudly served in the Marines for 4 years prior to his honorable discharge.
Joe worked many years as a salesman and sales manager with several car dealerships ultimately owning a Rent-a-Wreck franchise in Glen Burnie prior to his relocation to Florida. He enjoyed gardening and always had a love for Labrador Retrievers.
Joe is survived by his children Bart Shook and Deidra Anderson (nee Shook) and his sister, Phyllis Melvin (nee Shook), his grandchildren and nieces along with family and friends.
Joe is preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy F Shook.
