Affectionately known as Deacon Jones, Richard Jones passed away peacefully on Thursday June 10, 2021. He was the oldest of fifteen children born to Alonzo Jones and Mamie Lawyer Jones on October 18, 1928 in Tallahassee, FL. He attended grade school in Leon County and accepted Christ at an early age at Hickory Hill Baptist Church.
Deacon Jones moved to Fort Pierce, FL in 1952 where he would spend the rest of his adult life. He was a longtime member of Mount Moriah Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He later moved his membership to Immanuel Full Gospel Baptist Church where he served faithfully until death.
He was employed by the State Road Department for many years and later at Northrop Grumman Aircraft for eight years. He often performed several miscellaneous jobs at the same time of his full-time employment to help provide for his family. Deacon Jones was known wherever he went as an extremely caring and giving person. He was dedicated to those in need and always went the extra mile to put a smile on someone’s face. He enjoyed singing uplifting hymns, praying inspiring prayers, and blowing his harmonica. He also loved the outdoors and had a passion for fishing and gardening.
Deacon Jones was preceded in death by his Parents, Alonzo and Mamie Jones, Brothers: Alonzo Jones Jr., Leroy Jones, Tommy “Buddy” Jones, Joseph “Joe” Jones. Sisters: Lizetta Jones, Annie Mae Arnold (James), Rosa Lee Gaines Brimm (Alex), Ollie Mae Woodruff (George), Wilma Jean Jones. Left to cherish his memories are Two Brothers: Frank Sloan (Dorothy), Wilbur Austin (Gail). Six Sisters: Minnie L Leonard (John), Eula M Campbell, Geraldine Thompson (Arthur), Thelma Sampson (Timothy), Yvonne Dorsey, Shirly Austin.
Deceased Wives: Arletha Jones, Vera Jones, and Mary Jones. Surviving Former Wives: Louise Brunson Jones, Nobie Jones. Deceased Sons: George Jones (Vickie), Albert Jones, Eward Charles Jones (Alice), Richard Jones jr., Leon M. Jones, Frederick Lee Jones, Dexter Clayton Jones. Surviving Sons: Joe Louis Jones (Janice), Jerome Jones (Willie Ann), Isaac Jones (Andrea). Surviving Daughters: Alberta Crews (Chester), Celestine Baker (Sheppard), Vera Williams (Frank), Hattie Jones, Shelia Christie, Erica Jones Stepchildren: Rosemary Brunson (Charles), Glenda Robinson, Yvonne Prince, Laverne Jones, Johnetha Maness (Rodney), Rodney Jones, Ezekiel Jones, Ambrose Jones. A host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Public viewing for Richard Jones will take place on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 3:00pm-7:00pm at Stone Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, FL. Funeral Services will convene on Saturday, June 19, 2021 also at Immanuel Full Gospel Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 2:00pm. Burial will immediately follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
