Obituary For Lossie Sanders Jones

Lossie Sanders Jones was born into a strong family of faith on June 8, 1932 in Newton, Georgia to the Late Mark Sanders and Willie Mae Arline Sanders. Lossie attended elementary school at Providence Elementary in Baker County and graduated with Honors from Hutto High School at the early age of 15. She later continued her education at Indian River Community College.

Lossie united in marriage to the late Ulysses Jones, Sr. on September 18, 1949 in Colquitt, Georgia. Four children were blessed to this union. The couple was married 53 year before his passing. Growing up in a Christian home, Lossie accepted Christ at an early age at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Baker County Georgia for many years. Her family moved to Fort Lauderdale where she was a member and served on the Usher Board at New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. In 1962 when her husband’s job transferred him to Fort Pierce, Florida, they joined Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church where she and her family left an indelible mark. A faithful church member, Lossie held many leadership positions including church school teacher, President, Deaconess Council of the East Florida District Primitive Baptist Association, and was a Mother of the church. After many years at Mt. Moriah, Lossie joined her son, Pastor W. Frank Jones, at New Beginning Christian Ministries, where she faithfully attended until her health failed.

For many years, Lossie was employed by the St. Lucie County School System in several positions. She enjoyed working with young people helping to shape their future and often serving as mentor. She was stern but fair wanting only the best for her students. Her students loved her and always greeted her warmly in and outside of the school building.

Most people retire once in a lifetime, but Lossie made a career of retiring. She retired from the school system three times, the last time at age 85.

After an extended illness, Lossie passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 17, 2023 to rest and be with the Lord.

Her life was one of leadership, dedication, devotion to family and a strong sense of honor and integrity.

The matriarch of her family, Lossie leaves a legacy of strong sense of family, traditions, and love to cherish her memory are her daughter: Mildred (Charles) Neal of San Diego California; sons: Harvey (Linda) Jones who preceded her in death of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Pastor W.
