Obituary For Fannie Lee Moore Stephens

On Monday, November 30, 2020 God called his child Fan home to rest, making it the last stop on her travel itinerary. Early that Monday morning, struggling, and with labored respirations, Fan could be heard singing the old gospel song, “Glory, Glory. Hallelujah!”

Fan {and her twin sister Ann} was born on August 8, 1945 to the late Elder Joseph Algernon Moore and the late Dorothy Mae Moore in Gifford, Florida. Four of her siblings preceded her in death.

She was raised on “The Low End” of Gifford. Her parents were of the Pentecostal faith therefore, Fan’s introduction to, and relationship with, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit came early in her life. As a child, she attended the Church of God by Faith, Gifford, FL. Later in life, as an adult, she joined and faithfully attended, Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Gifford, FL., under the leadership of Pastor Willie Richardson, Jr.

Fan was educated at Gifford High School (GHS), “Home of the Mighty Tigers,” where she graduated in 1964. While in school, Fan belonged to various clubs and participated a variety of school activities. In 1961, as a Sophomore, she was chosen by the GHS football team as “Miss Team Sweetheart.” She was one of the few students who enjoyed the honor of having perfect attendance each year while attending Gifford High School.

Fan was a faithful employee at Indian River Memorial Hospital, Vero Beach, Florida from 1966 through 1995. She worked as a Sterile Preparation Clerk in the Supply Processing and Distribution Department. Throughout her lifetime, she had co-workers, colleagues, and friends whom she loved and who loved her. Fan was known for giving sage guidance to young people. Many of them called her Momma and she “adopted” them as her God-children…some of them being Ms. Renee’ Alexander, Ms. Janet Barr, Ms. Carlita Carter, Ms. Nickela Rodgers, and Ms. Tempre Smith, just to name a few. Among Fan’s closest friends were Mrs. Ella Mae Hill, Mrs. Cassandra Bagley Jenkins, Ms. Aquila Moore, and her lifelong friend, Mrs. Helen Moore Ardoin.

In 1965, Fan was united in holy matrimony to Ulysses Stephens. This union produced five children. Her oldest son, Ulysses Algernon “Tight” Stephens preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her fond memories: daughters Fernanda Ysa Moore Stephens and Teresa Ann Stephens and two sons, Larry David Stephens (Mary) and Justin Vashawn Stephens; and four siblings, Clare Moore Brown, Seffner, FL., Annie Moore Powell, (her twin sister) Port St. Lucie, FL., Reverend John Morris Moore (Gale), Sanford, FL., and Norma Moore Wilson (Larry), Anthony, FL., along with five grandchildren, Kai Janet’ Stephens, Courtney Lashona Stephens, Jada Tajanae Powell, Larry David Stephens, Jr., and Layla Victoria Stephens, and one great granddaughter, Jayla Love Jones, and many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, and brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws and many, many dear friends.

Graveside funeral services to celebrate her life will convene on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 11:00am also in Gifford Cemetery in Gifford, FL.
