Dorothy M. Gilmore, was born February 2, 1939 in Albany, Georgia, to the late John and Calley Whitaker. She graduated from Lincoln Park Academy with the class of 1959. She went on to major in caring about the wellbeing of others throughout her adult life.
Ms. Dot affectionately offered her home, and a hot meal to anyone in need, or to anyone who simply had a preference for her gourmet chitterlins’.
She was a past member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Rev Coleman.
Dorothy worked many years as a laundry attendant in care facilities in St. Lucie County, and always worked hard to help care for her family. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, and hosting BBQ’s.

Dorothy M. Gilmore completed her life’s journey on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 in the comfort of her home, in the care of family, whilst friends gathered to bid their farewell.
Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted— Matthew 5:4
Dorothy’s memory will forever be treasured by her two daughters: Evangelist Angelia Quistian and Ms. Gloria Gilmore; four grandchildren: L Denise Jones (Antonio), Ashanti Hendley, Martin Quistian Jr., Willesia Roundtree; seven great grandchildren: Alexa, Alyssa, and Marcus Jr. Hendley, Antonio Jr., Aden, and Ari Jones, and Jayla Hayling; sisters: Jerolyn Smith and Jennie Sharpton; aunt: Camilla White; siblings last known in Ocala, FL: Barry, Marilyn and Audrey Whitaker; long time friends/neighbors: Oris Jackson, Sarah Robinson, Amy Cherry; devoted caregivers: Quiana Nixon and Yolline Phanord; and a host of other family and friends who loved her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband: Willie Gilmore; her beloved brother: John Whitaker, brothers: Rev. Robert Jones (Bernice), James McGill (Ruth).
Public visitation for Dorothy Mae Gilmore will take place on Friday, December 9, 2022 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Stone Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, FL. Funeral services will convene on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 1:30pm. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
