Reverend Rufus Garrison, Sr.
As roses do, on the tenth of February in 1947, a precious life blossomed in the small town of Quitman, Georgia. That beautiful God given rose of a soul was born to the late Louise Garrison and Willie Lee Bell, Sr. This loving blessing was named Rufus. He was the 4th of thirteen siblings.
Rufus was educated at Washington Street High School in Quitman, Georgia. He also attended and completed theological school and was ordained as Reverend where he preached the word of God at Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Quitman, where he was also a member.
On August 11, 2024, while resting at home, the almighty God called Rufus home to eternal rest. Now that he has traveled to the heavenly realm, he leaves to cherish his memories; three sons, Rufus Jr., Anthony Bernard, and Keith Garrison; one daughter Melissa Garrison; sisters Rubye Franklin, Jacquelyn (Jackie) Garrison, Juanita Woodall, Josephine Bell, Jennie Hadley and Sylvia Terry; brothers Andrew Garrison, Armstrong Wright, Daniel, Donald, and John Bell.
Rufus was preceded in death by one daughter Kimberly; sisters Louvenia, Frances, Maggie, Lisa, and Charlotte; brothers Milton, Jimmy, Willie James, Charles, Sylvester, James, Willie Lee, Jr., and Johnny.
He leaves to cherish precious and unforgettable memories that will linger on the hearts of those who knew and loved him with Bernadine Marks, Dorothy Brown, Minnie Rose Tate, his grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Quitman with Pastor James Huewitt, Sr. officiating. Burial followed at the Mount Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery in Quitman. By family request, livestreaming was not available.
