Reverend Dr. Lewis Butler
Lewis Butler was born in Valdosta, Georgia on February 13, 1972. He graduated from Valdosta High School in 1991. He later attended Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service in Decatur, Georgia. As a little boy at the tender age of 11 he decided to pursue a career as a mortician at Harrington Funeral Home. Lewis also worked several other jobs throughout his life. He worked as a custodian at Valdosta State University, a stocker at Walmart and served at several funeral homes throughout South Georgia and North Florida. His most recent jobs of which he really enjoyed, was working at Lowes Home Building Supply and an armed security guard at multiple locations. He was well loved by many.
Lewis gave his life to Christ at an early age. He joined Mount Carmel House of God Saints in Christ in Valdosta, where he started preaching at a youth conference at the age of 15. Some other organizations Lewis was a part of was: Who So Ever Will, I Need Help, Don't Let the Devil Ride, and The Concerned Citizens.
Lewis pastored several churches, his first church was Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Naylor, Georgia. He later became the pastor of Saint Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Calvary, Georgia and his most recent church was the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Bainbridge, Georgia where he pastored for 4 years. Some of his most famous quotes were, "The Bible said...", and "It's in there unless you tore it out!"
Lewis was born to Juanita Butler and the (late) Donell Butler; he is the youngest of their four children. His stepsisters Cynthia Berrian and Marshelle Bembry proceeded in him in death.
Lewis leaves his memories in the hearts of his wife: Kimberly M. Butler; stepsons: ShaQuiere Ross and Malik Olds; mother: Juanita Butler; mother-in-law: Joann Miller; siblings: Carl Berrian, Thomas Butler, Reginald Butler (Christine), Carlo Butler (Tammy), Ronda Thomas (Derrick), Daniel Butler, Donell Butler Jr., and Benjamin Butler. sister-in-law: Shatauri Chandler (Anthony), brothers-in-law: Scott Simmons, Clifford Simmons Jr., and Benjamin Simmons; uncles: James Butler Sr. (Nadine), Simon Simmons Jr. (Roberta), Elijah Simmons, and aunts: Mary Butler, Florence Harrison, Louvenia Jones, Lillie Pease, Geraldine Paxton, Bettye Simmons. grandchildren: Hailey, Kodah, Noah, ShaQuiere Jr., Ny'Yoni, and Armani; godson: Amarion Miller; and a host of nieces; nephews, cousins, and other loving friends.
Wake Services will be Friday, November 24, 2023 from 5:00-7:00pm at the Sylvester Williams Multi-Purpose Building, located at 204 Church Street in Cairo, GA.
Home Going Celebration will be Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 12:00PM at St. Claire Primitive Baptist Church, 1190 Calvary Road Cairo, GA. Livestream will be available on this website and our Stevens-McGhee Funeral Facebook page. Burial will follow in Jonas Lobe Cemetery in Bainbridge, GA.
