Obituary For Minnie Williams Madison

~ OBITUARY ~ Minnie Lee Williams Madison November 19, 1945 – December 26, 2021

M innie was born on November 19, 1945, in Dixie, Georgia to Ethel Tillman Williams and Bennett Williams, both of whom preceded her in death. She is the 7th of 11 children. On Sunday, December 26th at 9:40PM, Heaven needed another Angel; therefore, Minnie was called home by her Heavenly Father.

Minnie attended Washington Street High School in Quitman, Georgia where she met and married Robert Seay. They would later divorce, and she would meet and marry Earl Coates. In 1970, Minnie and Earl relocated from Quitman to Baltimore, Maryland, where she would remain until her untimely death on December 26, 2021. Her marriage to Earl would also end in divorce.

While in Baltimore, Minnie went to work for General Motors Corporation (GM). She retired from GM after 23 years of dedicated service. When she went to work for GM, she met and married Roland Madison, who preceded her in death. Minnie and Roland wanted all of their coworkers to attend their wedding. They were granted permission to have their wedding ceremony at the GM plant, where they were both assigned to the morning shift. Minnie was blessed with seven beautiful children, of whom five remain to mourn her untimely departure – Wayne Seay, Angela Seay, Rhonda Seay, Tangela Butler, and Randall Seay. Her two youngest children, Earlene Seay and Allen Coates, preceded her in death. Minnie was a lover of flowers. Prior to the Covid pandemic, she could be found working in her flower gardens daily. She was closely connected to Mother Earth – she had a green thumb, and she could grow anything. Minnie also had a photographer’s spirit. She loved taking photos of others, and she loved being photographed. She also loved music – listening to it, singing along to it, and dancing to it. One of her favorite songs was Amazing Grace. Minnie also loved to frequent thrift shops, which she often referred to as her “therapy”. In accordance with her generous spirit, she would give many of her “finds” to others. She was known for sending boxes of thrift store goodies to her loved ones.

Minnie’s mothering nature began early. During her childhood, she was the big sister who took care of her four younger siblings while their mother worked. She cooked, combed their hair, and made sure that they were ready for school. Therefore, each of her younger sisters looked to her as a second mother.

When Minnie’s children were growing up, she would feed their friends and any of the children in the neighborhood. When she was hospitalized for open heart surgery, the young adults from her old neighborhood would go to visit her religiously. During those visits, they would remind her of all the times they would have gone hungry had it not been for her making biscuits for the neighborhood children. A mother to everyone in her orbit, she was always cooking and feeding someone.

Minnie had a favorite saying, “I am going to my feathers,” which she adopted from her mother. This phrase simply meant that she was going to her bed. She would often tell us, “You will get over it, or not.” With her assistance, many of us were able to navigate through rough times, and we thank her for reminding us that we cannot have everything that we want, when we want it. However, if something is meant for you, you will have it in God’s divine timing.

In addition to her parents, her two youngest children, and her husband, Minnie was preceded in death by five siblings – Ellen Goins, Bennett Wallace Williams, Sam Williams, Wilbur Lee Williams, and Calvin Willis Williams. In addition to five of her children, Minnie also leaves behind four sisters – Belva Jones, Joyce Chester, Pearline Adams (Willis), and Barbara Williams; one brother, Eddie Williams (Shirley); as well as sisters-in-law – Edwina Williams, Mary, Gloria, Bridgette, and Daphane (James); a brother-in-law, Glenn Madison; a stepdaughter, Sherry (James); a step-son, Rodney (Charlene); grandchildren – Wayne Seay Jr., Michael Seay, Shamora, Keith, Kea, Jermaine, Michael, Matthew, Randall Jr., Karisma, Isis, Destiny, Dhillon, Angel, Fred, and Tiara; great grandchildren – Wayne Seay III, Brooke, Kahron, Zion, Zoe, Tavoia, Stephanie, Carson, Jayce, Travonne, Tavin, Solar, Ivory, Khamil, and Kamari; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives, including a special friend, Brenda Evans-Hall (Minnie’s food angel), affectionately known as Mama Hall.

May you rest in peace, our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and wise counselor. We will miss you. You were our guide, generously sharing your wisdom and sage advice to all who would listen. You did your best to keep us on the right path, and for that, we are eternally grateful. Our lives will never be the same without your physical presence, but we have all been enriched by the bright light that radiated from your soul. Our Earth Angel has returned home, taking her rightful place in the heavens, where she will continue to guide us as our Guardian Angel.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 12PM at the Evelyn McGhee Community Center with Apostle Frank Goins, eulogist. Burial will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Gardens. Visit this website or our Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home Page to view a livestream of the celebration and extend condolences to the family.

Continue to keep the family in your daily thoughts and prayers.
