Mary Ann Mitchell, 65, of Quitman, GA, passed away on April 5, 2023 due to a recent illness.
Mary Ann was born on May 19, 1957 to Dr. John Thomas and Bettye Lewis Mitchell in Quitman, GA. Both parents preceded her in death. She leaves behind her sister, Minta Mitchell Elder and brother-in-law, Rick Elder.
In her childhood, Mary Ann was an adorable, precocious child. Mary Ann became a lover of music and a lover of all things artsy and crafty. Music has always been one of her passions. She was pianist at Morrison Baptist Church. In past years she has used her musical talent in several churches within the area. Mary Ann loved to sing. Her voice range was amazing although her favorite voice parts were alto and tenor. She would volunteer to play and sing at the Presbyterian Home when needed.
She attended college and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Valdosta State University. Upon graduation she worked for Juvenile Justice Division in Colquitt County but later returned to her family’s farm where she raised cattle and grew hay.
Mary Ann will be greatly missed by her precious fur baby, Lemonade, along with her many family members and friends.
Mary Ann had the biggest heart and the most beautiful smile. She was a private and quiet person, but also very witty and fun! She was fearless and independent, yet sensitive and incredibly compassionate. She was strong-willed and stubborn, but those traits defined Mary Ann. They were part of who she was, and her strength undoubtedly helped her deal with life’s challenges.

There aren't words to describe the huge loss I feel without Mary Ann. As a lst cousin I was spending summers at her parents house even before she was born. When she came as a spunky little doll it was like she was the second child and my lst baby sister at her house. It was like having 2 different homes and wonderful. We got into so much trouble but had so much fun anyway. Thankfully we stayed very close through her whole life. Her life was the best sermon any preacher could preach. Her faith and love were God inspired for all to see. She and I shared a tremendous love for church, animals and politics. We had no barriers in our conversations because we learned from each other because we were on the same page. Thank you Mary Ann for being a wonderful sister, cousin, confidant and friend. My heart reaches out to Minta and her many other friends. I know the loss you feel and pray for you all fervently. Teliea
