The Obituary
Mrs. Irine Shaw Straughter was born March 29, 1928 in Quitman, Georgia to the late James Shaw and Nellie Mae Shaw. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Johnnie Lee Straughter.
Mother Straughter was a dedicated member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Pavo, Georgia. She enjoyed serving God in many capacities, including church usher. She had and outgoing, joyous personality. She loved spending time with her family and socializing with loved ones and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sons Willie Curtis Straughter, Johnny T. Straughter, Nathaniel Straughter, Allen Straughter, her daughter Osie Berrian, three sisters, Mildred Jones, Lillie May Taylor (Joseph), Pearline Linder (Johnny) and her brother Wade Shaw. Mother Straughter passed from this earthly life to receive her eternal reward on December 24, 2020 at her residence. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memories; her children, Ruby Lightner (Norman), Sharon Scott, Sandra Mobley (Wilbert), Marvin Straughter (Latonya); her sisters, Lucile Sheppard (Charlie), Mildred Jones, Frankie Newsome (Junior), Annie May Porter, Nettie Sharp (Ernest), Eloise Pettis (Willie); brothers, James Shaw (Saretha), Henry Shaw, Rufus Shaw (Brenda); 35 grandchildren 70 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren; special niece-in-laws: Beatrice Straughter (Junior), Louvenia Straughter (Johnny B), Dorothy Straughter and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 11AM at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, January 1, 2021 at the Stevens-McGhee Chapel from 3PM-7PM.
