Mr. Gerald Gloster was born in Thomas County Georgia on August 20, 1927 to the late Seymore and Callie Gloster. He was the youngest of nine children. Gerald completed his family circle and is now reunited with his parents and brothers, Seymore, Jack, Ernest, Bennie, William Gloster and sisters, Jannie Demps, Lillie Mae Green, Callie Mae Hill, and Ona Belle Lane.
Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Wessie Mae Gloster. He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters - Geraldine Christopher (John) and Annette Kendrick (Andrew L. Kendrick Sr., preceded in death), two sons - William Henry and John Curtis Gloster.
Seven grandchildren: Consondra Christopher-Davis (Willie Davis), Tony Christopher (Tanika), Andrew Kendrick Jr. (Kiesha) Andrea Kendrick, Patrick Gloster (Krystal), Jerold Gloster, and Jessica Matson.
Fourteen great grandchildren: Chandon and Camdyn Davis; Najee, Samuel, Cameron, and Aaralyn Christopher; Andrew Kendrick III, Joshua Kendrick- Johnson, Gabriel (Gabby) and Sebastian Gloster, Dana Anderson, Ember and Robert Matson Jr. and Skyla Raine Fleming. Sister-in-law: Erma Ruth Ham. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that would frequently call and visit him.
Gerald completed his education in Quitman, Georgia. He was a farmer who later moved to Naples Florida where he worked in construction. After Gerald’s sight began to fail him, his granddaughter, Consondra, insisted he move to Tampa, Florida. His grandson, Tony, helped him move to live with his daughter, Geraldine and son-in-law John Christopher.
Although he was legally blind and could not see, Gerald was a very proud and independent man, believing he could do anything regardless of his loss of sight. Gerald’s caregiver would say, “I think he forgets that he is blind.”
Thank you to Tyer Temple UMC for your thoughts and prayers. We thank Hillsborough County Aging for their services, which made it easier to keep Gerald at home and age gracefully with the loving care of his family.
