Deacon James “Boo” Emanuel Spencer, Sr., was born in Dixie, Georgia, on June 26, 1940, to the late Deacon William “Bud” Spencer and Alice (Davis) Spencer.
Deacon Spencer was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Mae Hearn; two brothers, John H. Spencer and Paul E. Spencer; and son, Bernard Spencer.
Deacon Spencer was a devoted member of Simmon Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Dixie, GA, where he served as a deacon and in numerous other auxiliaries. He was also a faithful choir member and loved to sing every chance he could get. His favorite song was “Wave My Hand” by Lee Williams. Deacon Spencer was an active and faithful member of Simmon Hill for decades, until his health declined. Also a servant of his community, Deacon Spencer served as County Commissioner and member of the Brooks County Laymen’s Department. He could oftften be found helping people in need.
A family man of great love and devotion, Deacon Spencer’s legacy will be cherished and remembered by those who loved him most: his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Karen Spencer; daughters, Pamela (Curtis) Griffiffin, Tracy Ann Spencer, and Heather Spencer; sons, James E. Spencer, Jr., Bruce (Alysia) Spencer, Farris (Natalie ) Spencer, Tracy (Celesta) Spencer, Patrick (Jamilah) Spencer, and Michael (Asia) Spencer; brother, William “Cleve” (Annette) Spencer; three sisters, Marilyn (James) Grant, Edna (Perry) Robinson and Teresa Scruggs; and a host of beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, November 24, 2023 at the Stevens-McGhee chapel from 3PM-7PM.
