Lydia Ruth DeBerry Jackson was born on July 5, 1939, to the late Callie Mae Watkins DeBerry and George J. DeBerry Sr. She departed this life on December 30, 2022 in Oakboro, NC.
She was a graduate of Kingville High School and a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Oakboro, NC. She served Galilee faithfully as a Deaconess, Youth Choir Director, Pastor Aid Committee, President of the Usher Board, Missionary Department, and a devoted Sunday School Teacher until her health declined. She was a member of Cleo Chapter #122, Order of the Eastern Star, PHA.
Lydia furthered her education at Stanly Community College to purse her nursing degree. She worked at Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle, NC until she retired. After retirement she provided home health care in her community. In her leisure time, she loved traveling to the beach, fishing with her friends, planting flowers in her yard, singing spiritual hymns, and attending Zion Association Conferences.
She was loved and known as a Matriarch in the community.
Lydia was proceeded in death by her son, Warren L. Jackson; sisters, Annie Shankle, Earlene Biles, Betty Hunter, and Brenda Holmes; brothers, Thomas DeBerry and George DeBerry Jr.
Fond and loving memories will be cherished by her husband of 63 years, Eddie B. Jackson of Oakboro, NC; her daughters, Dorothy L. Jackson, Callie J. Moses, and Pamela D. Jackson of Oakboro, NC; her sons, Charles E. Jackson of Badin, NC, Bruce R. Jackson of Oakboro, NC and Thomas L. Jackson of Burgaw, NC; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce (Leroy) Lyons of Norwood, NC and Myrtle Collins of Queens, NY; six sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Two special friends, Connie R. Thomas and Clara Hunter.
The Homegoing Services will be on Saturday, January 7, 2023, 1:00pm, Saints Delight Church, 520 Wall Street, Albemarle, North Carolina. Interment will be at Oakboro Cemetery, Oakboro, North Carolina.
The Jackson Family will greet family and friends on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 12:30-1:00pm at Saints Delight Church.
The public viewing will be on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 3:00-5:00pm at Smith's Funeral Home, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina.
