Obituary For MRS. GENEVA STREETER GADDY

MRS. GENEVA STREETER GADDY

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love HIS appearing.” Geneva Darcus Streeter Gaddy fell asleep in Christ at her home on Monday, April 25, 2016 at the age of 101, to enjoy her loving savior’s ultimate presence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Gaddy, Sr. and was the daughter of Tom and Cornelia Diggs of Wadesboro, North Carolina. Mrs. Gaddy was educated in the public schools of Anson County as well Fayetteville State University with a major in teacher education, and North Carolina A&T, for Food Service Certification. She was employed by Anson County School System as Head Dietician for eighteen years; Union Memorial Hospital as Head of Housekeeping Department for fourteen years.

“To know her was to love her.” Affectionately known as “Miss Eve”, she was always willing to serve in any way that she could in her community. As head dietician she fed countless numbers of needy students who even today express their appreciation for her sacrifice. She also catered the Annual Lions Club Blind Banquet, preparing the meal from her residence which was then transported to their facility as well as the Annual Christmas Banquet for the Administration of Union Memorial Hospital.

She spoke softly and her actions carried weight. She was passionate, caring and very committed to the task of making sure that no one was hungry.

She attended Kesler Chapel AME Zion Church where she was a lifelong member. Before her health declined she was very active on numerous church committees; among them were Kitchen Committee, and Rainbow Tea Coordinator. She also received recognitions as Pillar of Strength, Mother of the Year and honored for her dedication, devotion, loyalty to Kesler Chapel in 2004.

In recognition of her 100th Birthday (Centennial), commendations were received from President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama; North Carolina State Senator Kay R. Hagan; North Carolina House of Representative, Garland E. Pierce, District 48.

Her loving memory will be cherished by her family: her children, Anthony Streeter (Helen); Brenda Teal (John); Williette Herring (The Late Raymond); Valencia McKinney (George); Alexander Gaddy, Jr. (Celeste). One Sister, Arnetta Wallington of Mt. Vernon, NY; One Cousin, John Thomas Massey (Jackie) of Columbus, GA. Twelve Grandchildren; Twenty-Seven Great Grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Homegoing Service to celebrate the Life and Legacy of Mother Gaddy will be on Friday, April 29, 2016, 3:00pm, at Kesler Chapel AME Zion Church, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Burial will follow in Westview Memorial Park, Highway 74-West, Wadesboro, North Carolina.
