Obituary For Mr. Thomas Alexander Tillmon

Thomas Alexander Tillmon was born on December 10, 1944, in Thomasville, NC, to the late Thomas E. and Gloria Tillman. As a young man, he attended West Deep Creek School, where he played the sports he loved - basketball and baseball.

After graduating, he served his country in the U.S. Army as a supply officer during the Vietnam War until 1968. After returning home, Thomas met and then married the love of his life, Marite Moore, on December 24, 1968. They went on to have a beautiful family of four children. After many years of loyal service, he retired from Teledyne Allvac in 2008.

Outside of work, Thomas had a passion for baseball and basketball. He spent numerous years as a volunteer coach for Anson County Little and Senior Leagues. In his honor, the Thomas A. Tillmon Award recognizes sportsmanship and community service in baseball. Thomas also served as a high school basketball referee and official for close to 20 years. Throughout the years, Thomas helped shape the lives of countless young men in the community. Through it all he found humor in even the most trying situations, bringing joy to those around him.

Family was of the utmost importance to Thomas. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Marite, and their four children, Eric Tillmon (Sherry) of Huntersville, NC; Darrell Tillmon (Theresa) of Boston, MA; Corey Tillmon (LaFondrae) of Charlotte, NC; and Zaneta Tillmon Broughton (Luther) of Fort Mill, SC.; brother and sisters, Flora Ethel Tillman, Henry Frank Tillman (Irma Jean) and Gloria Murphy (Levi) of High Point, NC, Mezedo Tillmon and Annie Fagain of Wadesboro, NC and six grandchildren, Dorien, Emerie, Chloe, Cameron, Aeidan, and Aerian. He was preceded in death by Mary Ellen Michael, Vanessa Monk, and Benjamin Tillman. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The Homegoing Services will be on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, 1:00pm, Smith’s Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina.
