MR. ELLIS BOWMAN
Ellis Bowman was born on December 2, 1949, in Pageland, South Carolina to the late Vergil Raeford Bowman and Lula Mae Bennett Bowman. He departed this life from labor to reward on April 12, 2021 in Pineville, North Carolina. He attended Meltonville Baptist Church, Peachland, NC and Ebenezer Baptist Church in Wadesboro, NC during his childhood years. He received his formal education at Deep Creek and J.R. Faison School and was a graduate of Bowman Senior High School, Class of 1968. Upon graduation, he enlisted into the U.S. Army where he served in Germany. After returning home from military duty, he enrolled in Anson Technical College and studied automatics. Working as a mobile Auto Mechanic on the side, he was not only the family’s mechanic but the people’s mechanic. Ellis was also employed at Wansona Manufacturing Company for many years, working alongside his father and brother, Fred until his health started to fail him. Ellis loved life and he didn’t let being in a wheelchair stop him from living life to its fullest. He did whatever he wanted to; but, when his health started slowing him down cooking, making home-made wine (out of any fruit or vegetable), enjoying family and friends, talking on the telephone and watching his soap operas, all became his past-time entertainment. Ellis later met, felled in love and married Ms. Bonita Gordon and this union brought forth two children, Xaviera and Quentin. He leaves his love and memories to his daughter, Xaviera Bowman-Dixon (Demond), Charlotte, NC and son, Quentin Bowman (Sovenia), Wadesboro, NC; his pride and joy were his beloved grandkids, Kyndal and Christian; other grandkids, Japarrish, Jamonica and Jaquaris; and 1 great-grandchild, Parris. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Edward Bowman and sister, Veronica Bowman. He is survived by five brothers and one sister: Persell Bowman, Charlotte, NC, Hubert Bowman (Phyllis), New London, NC, Arthur Bowman (Dimitra), Orlando, FL, Clement Bowman (Sonja), Mint Hill and Frederick Bowman and Delphine Bowman, Angier, NC, and sister-in-law, Josie Bowman, Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank a special and good friend and honorary brother to Ellis and his family, Mr. Vess Dunlap. Thank you so much Vess for always being there, ready to assist us whenever we needed you. You always answered our call. Cousin, Cyd Robinson for staying in touch with him, the food plates, coffee runs and ride-outs to get him out the house. And, his home-care nurse, Ms. Sarita Byrd for taking good care of him and always putting a smile on his face. Ellis loved you guys and so do we.
The Services to Celebrate his life were held on Monday, April 19, 2021, 1:00pm, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina.
