To everything there is a season. A time to be born and a time to die, and so it was our beloved Mr. Dwayne Thomas Wheeler, the son of Thomas LeGrand Sr. and Bobbie Wheeler. To many of his friends he was known as “Man.” He was born on July 8, 1974, in Anson County, North Carolina. He peacefully departed his life on March 13, 2025, at Atrium Health Hospice in Monroe, North Carolina, at the age of 50.
Dwayne was educated in the Anson County School System. He was a graduate of Anson Senior High School, Class of 1992.
Dwayne worked at Charles Craft Mills until his health failed. Dwayne loved to help his family, neighbors and friends in the community. He did yard work, cut grass, etc. He will be deeply missed.
He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Pleasant Hill AME Zion Church, Wadesboro, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Wheeler; sister, Janet Lindsey; grandparents and great grandparents; nephew, Tristen Lindsey and cousin, Corderro “Pee Wee” Alexander.
To cherish his memories, his loving mother, Bobbie Wheeler, of the home; his father, Thomas LeGrand Sr. of Mt. Gilead, NC; four sisters, Kimberly Crump (Rev. Jeffrey Crump) of Burnsville, NC, Tabitha Little (Tony) and Tonita Ratliff of Charlotte, NC and Tamela Tillman (Rodney) of Lilesville, NC; three brothers, Leon Lindsey (LaKeya) of McFarlan, NC, Thomas LeGrand Jr. (Dr. Takeda) of Wingate, NC and Timothy LeGrand (Niasia) of Charlotte, NC.
His wife, Zondra Wheeler of Charlotte, NC; mother-in-law, Barbara L. Taylor of Wadesboro, NC; sister-in-law, Tamkea Lee of Charlotte, NC and brother-in-law, Clarence Taylor of Wadesboro, NC.
A host of nieces and nephews. One special niece, Taylor Short (Demetrius); two special nephews, Sean Wheeler (Tangelia) and Jaquel Lindsey. Two great nieces, Shania Wheeler and Brenae Little. Three great nephews, Sean Wheeler Jr., Keshan Sturdivant and Josiah Smith. A host of aunts and three aunts he loved so dearly, Rose Lindsey and Carolyn Alexander of Wadesboro, NC and Ethel Ellerbe of Lilesville, NC. One uncle, Harley LeGrand. A host of cousins, relatives and friends whom he loved so much.
The Homegoing Services will be on Saturday, March 22, 2025, 2:00pm, Pleasant Hill AME Zion Church, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will be in the family plot of the Church Cemetery.
The Wheeler Family will greet family and friends on Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 1:30-2:00pm at Pleasant Hill AME Zion Church and at all other times at the family residence.
