Alvin Eugene Sturdivant, born to the late Roy Lewis Ponds and Alice Jewel Sturdivant, was born January 24, 1957 in Anson County, NC. Alvin was called to eternal rest on Friday, June 25, 2021.
A proud 1975 graduate of Bowman Sr. High School, Alvin was a long-time employee of Pilgrim’s Pride where he retired from in 2019. Following in the footsteps of his father and older brothers, Alvin worked in the poultry industry for 44 years, including a long stint at Tyson Foods, where his work ethic was unmatched, and he was a beloved supervisor and friend to many. An avid hunter and gardener, Alvin loved all things outdoors, but nothing more than his many breeds of dogs through the years; a love that lives on through many of his children and grandchildren. Alvin was also a channel surfing sports fanatic (college, professional, NASCAR, wrestling, etc.) who inspired in his children a love of competition, and as a young father nurtured their talent, growth, and development.
Above all else, Alvin was a family man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle, as well as an outstanding colleague and faithful friend to many. He lived a full life and although his sixty-four years seems short to those he leaves behind, his impact was profound, leaving all of us with many life lessons, and a legacy of love, faith, and resilience. Though he was a quiet and unassuming man, Alvin also had the ability to liven up a room with his personality, laughter, and smile. He always found a way to make people feel seen and included. He most certainly lived every second of his to life to the fullest and treasured every moment with those he loved.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife and love of 39 years, Betty Ann Sturdivant of Polkton, NC; five sons, Alvin “Bray” Sturdivant (Michelle) of Seattle, WA; Reco Sturdivant (Cierra) of Lilesville, NC; James Lamont Sturdivant of Polkton, NC; Ray Barrett (Lateesa) of Winston Salem, NC; Thomas Clyburn of Monroe, NC; four daughters, Rasheeda Reenay Sturdivant of Polkton, NC; Barbara Barrett of Polkton, NC; Doris Smith (Marvin) of Monroe, NC; and Della Clyburn of Wingate, NC; four brothers, Roy Sturdivant of Polkton, NC; Minister Tony Sturdivant (Dianne) of Pageland, SC; Jesse Caudle of Atlanta, Ga; and Nicky McLendon of Marshville, NC; six sisters, Annabel Sturdivant of Polkton, NC; Anita Maness (Antonio) of Polkton, NC; Juanita Sturdivant, of Ansonville, NC; Fannie Cox of Asheboro, NC; Geraldine Miller (Rodney) of Marshville, NC; and Carolyn Steward (Eddie) of Marshville, NC; 20 grandchildren including Christopher Tealè Bivens who was raised in the home as one of his own, 17 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Alvin was also preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Lewis Sturdivant, Sr. and Carl Thomas.
The Homegoing Services will be on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, 2:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will be in Williams Cemetery, Polkton, North Carolina.
