EARLY (GRIMMETTE), Jacquelyn "Jackie"
May 15, 1936 –December 31, 2020
Jacquelyn Grimmette Early or "Jackie" as her family and friends called her – passed peacefully on December 31, 2020. She was predeceased by her husband, John J. Early, parents Joel and Cecil Grimmette, and her sisters: Vivian Brinson and Carrie Nell Martin.
The eldest daughter of her parents and born in Atlanta, Jacquelyn was educated in the Atlanta Public Schools.
She attended Morris Brown College and graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. Jacquelyn began a long and fruitful career as an elementary teacher.
She taught first in the Marietta School system. She later moved to the Atlanta School system where she taught at the elementary level for thirty years. No matter what school she taught, her principals, students and their parents loved Jacquelyn's patient, innovative, and dedicated teaching skills. This was particularly true at her last assignment at Sarah Smith Elementary School.
After retirement, Jacquelyn enjoyed tending her flowers at home, traveling, participating in social events with friends and family, and attending Church of the Master United Presbyterian Church where she was a faithful member.
Jacquelyn's survivors include sister, Joyce Barlow; brother Joel Grimmette, Jr.; niece, Karen Banks; nephews, Kevin Banks (Terrie Banks), Terrence Grimmette and Joel Grimmette III; great niece, Chari Burke and daughters (Jordyn, Maddison), Taylor Banks; great nephew, Antoine Banks; sister-in-law, Mary Frances Early and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
Viewing will be held Friday, January 8, 2021 from 1:00 - 6:00pm at Smith Dennis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel. 3047 Campbellton Rd., SW Atlanta 30311
Services will be held at the Smith, Dennis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 12:00.
Reverend Dr. Cecelya Taylor will officiate.
Services will be live streamed.
Interment - Lincoln Cemetery immediately following.
