Gerald Franklin Fields was born September 17, 1933, to the late William Frank Fields, Jr. and Vera Vertelle Norvell. Gerald, affectionately known as “Gerry,” was reared by his grandmother, Senata Norvell. Gerald was educated in the public school system of Hackensack, New Jersey. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Hackensack where his grandmother was a founding member. Gerald met and married the love of his life, Carol Joyce Hannon, in 1954. They had three daughters and one son. Gerald worked for many years at Chrysler Motor Corporation in South Hackensack, and later at Superior Tape until furthering his education to become a Master Technician with Pitney Bowes. Gerald and his family eventually moved to Hillside, New Jersey. In his spare time, Gerald loved playing the guitar with his band, Silent Storm. They were wellknown in Hackensack, playing at many weddings and events. Gerald was a phenomenal baseball player and would have gone to the minor league, but fell in love and started a family. Gerald loved to read and was self-taught in many things. He built a darkroom and developed pictures; he made barrels of wine from the grapevine in his yard; he built multi-level decks for his family’s enjoyment; he wrote several books and loved oil painting on canvas. There was nothing Gerald could not do if he read about it and had a genuine interest in making it happen. Gerald moved to Georgia in 2014. He departed his life peacefully on January 19, 2022. He was predeceased by his wife, Carol Fields. Gerald leaves to cherish his loving memory, a brother, Matthew Fields (Donna, deceased) of Bridgeton, New Jersey; a son, Anthony “Tony” Fields of Hillside, New Jersey; three daughters, Karen Fields McClain (Lee) of West Palm Beach, Florida; Cheryl Fields (Kim) of Tampa, Florida and Cassandra Sheffield (Ron) of Lithia Springs, Georgia.
