Funeral services for Ms. Willie Carolyn Martin Aiken, 83, of Orangeburg, SC, will be held 11:00am, Friday, December 2, 2022, at Simmons Funeral Home and Crematory, 2868 Columbia Road, Orangeburg, SC, with interment to follow in Belleville Memorial Gardens.
Ms. Aiken passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022, at the Methodist Oaks, Orangeburg.
Willie (Billie) Carolyn Aiken was born August 1st 1939 to Willie and Carolyn Martin in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She was reared by her parental grandmother, uncles and an aunt. She attended Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church as a toddler and became a member in 1951, at the age of 12.
Billie graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1957, after which she moved to New York City to live with her mother. While living in New York, she attended Pace University and worked for the Social Security Administration. She worked there for more than 30 years. More im-portantly, she met and married the love of her life, Gabe Aiken. Billie and Gabe got married October 30, 1965 and remained married until he was called to his final resting place on May 09, 2003.
Billie relocated to Orangeburg, South Carolina in the mid 1990’s. She re-united with Mount Pisgah Baptist Church and became active in a number of ministries at the church. Additionally, she was involved with a number of civic organizations. Billie was extremely proud of her work with AARP, an organization where she served as local chapter president for many years. She also enjoyed her work as a representative of the Silver Haired Legislature which is an organization that advocates for the needs of seniors.
Due to illness, Billie spent the last years of her life at Morningside of Orangeburg (Legacy) and the Oaks.
Billie leaves to mourn her loss her brother Calvin Martin (Marcella) of New York City, a niece Cassandra Martin-Himmons (Craig) of New York City, cousins Bernard McPherson (Margie), Rev. Carl McPherson (Mavis) of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Chandra McPherson-Gibbs (Marlon) of Charleston, SC. Also, several close friends, Ms. Lizzie Zimmerman Keitt, Evia Thomas, Ora Thomas and Louise Faison.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 2, 2022, from 9:00am until the hour of service.
