Funeral services for Ms. Brenda C. Darby, 67, of Orangeburg, SC, will be held 1:00pm, Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Simmons Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel, 2868 Columbia Road, with interment to follow in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Brenda C. Darby, daughter of the Late Julius Charles Sr. and the late Alice W. Charles was born February 24, 1956 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. she departed this life on Thursday, August 10, 2023, following a brief illness.
Brenda was educated in Orangeburg County public School system, where she was a 1974 graduate of Edisto High School. She received a bachelor’s degree from South Carolina State University in 1994. Brenda worked with DHEC Home Health programs for many years. She also worked as a substitute teacher for Orangeburg School District Four.
Brenda joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church at an early age, where she served faithfully and diligently until her health failed.
Brenda was married to the late Harry G. Darby Sr. They celebrated twenty years of marriage and to that union four children were born: Michelle Gladys Darby, Harry G. Darby Jr., Maurice Marcus Darby, and Marcellus Quentin Darby. Brenda was a loving and devoted mother, sister, aunt and friend to many.
Brenda was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Harry G. Darby, Sr.; and daughter, Michelle G. Darby.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: three sons: Harry G. Darby Jr., Maurice M. Darby and Marcellus Q. Darby; grandson, Donte Marcus Darby of Orangeburg, SC; six sisters: Dr. Betty Barr, of Austin, Texas, Juliette (Thomas) Fields, of Sumter, SC, Rebecca Hammond, Linda Charles, Janice Charles, Janet (Eddie) Argrow all of Orangeburg, SC; four brothers: Julius Charles, Jr. of Washington, DC, Wilbert Charles, Henry (Barbara) Charles and Johnny Charles all of Orangeburg, SC; five sisters-in-law: Jessie Ann Parker, Hattie (Ladis) Wade, Diane (Rufus) Darby-Hampton, Linda Darby, and Delores Darby; three brother-in-law: John (Wanda) Darby, Thomas (Debra) Darby Sr., Glynn (Nita) Darby Sr. Brenda was also blessed with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 2:00pm - 6:00pm.
