Funeral service for Mrs. Elizabeth Nimmons, 79, of 1695 Brentwood Street, Orangeburg, SC will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 28, 2021, at Simmons Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel, 2868 Columbia Road, Orangeburg, SC, with interment to follow at the Heavenly Rest Memorial Park, 126 Smiley Drive, Cordova, SC. Reverend Amos Gourdine is officiating.
Mrs. Elizabeth Nimmons was born November 6, 1942, in Rowesville South Caroina, to the late George and Maggie Simpson. Liz went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Liz received her education in Orangeburg County Schools. She then moved to New York, which she met the love of her life, Ernest Nimmons. They were joined in holy matrimony on December 31, 1960 and to this union four children were born.
She was employed by Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York until her retirement in 1991, after which she and her family moved back to South Carolina. She was a faithful member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church of Rowesville, South Carolina and was a member of the Mass Choir, which was one of her greatest joys. She was also one of the Mothers of the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, George Simpson, and four sisters: Dorothy Gordon, Georgia Downing, Shirley McLaurin and Jacquline Owens.
Elizabeth leaves behind to cherish her fond memories,four children: Deidra (William) Clowney of St. Matthews, SC Dexter (Charlene) Nimmons of Columbia, SC, Dwayne (Cheauntey) Nimmons of Whitehall, PA and Anthony Nimmons of the home; one brother, Dennis (Mary) Simpson of Rowesville, SC; eleven grandchildren: Dwayne Nimmons, Jr., Amadeus Nimmons, Tyquan Nimmons, Cheaunthena Nimmons, Ja'lesha Nimmons, Sequan Nimmons, Cartier Sharperson, Tiffanie Sharperson, Destiny Clowney, Cameron Clowney, and Quinice Clowney; eight great grandchildren; one godson, Travis Glover; two sisters-in-law: Lisa (Leslie) Martin and Malichia Johnson; three brothers-in-law: Joe Lewis Nimmons, Jim (Lois) Nimmons, and Clyde McLaurin; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and dear friends. Sincere thanks to her special care givers, family, and friends who have helped us during her time od sickness: Phyllis Pauling, Linda Rivers, Mary Guinyard, Queen Weatherspoon, Lucinda Murph, Yolanda McClellan, Karen Govan, Sandra Willingham and the nursing staff at The Methodist Oaks..
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021.
