PRECIOUS MEMORIES: Elaine (Laine) and I met in the summer of 1969 working through the JTPA program at Shaw Air Force Base Commissary as cashiers. She, Lillie Maple and I bonded there, and we went on to SC State in the fall. Laine and I became forever friends. We had gone to different high schools: Elaine--Eastern High; Lillie--Lincoln High, and I--Ebenezer High. Elaine worked her first post-college job at Bowman High School and called me to come there also because they needed an English teacher. We became apartment-mates at Roosevelt Gardens in Orangeburg and carpooled together to Bowman. Elaine, Deloris Levine, and I attended various churches on Sunday mornings while in college; sometimes we visited her Aunt Elise's Church, St Luke Presbyterian. We have had 55 years of precious memories. After graduation we never lost our loving homegirl connections. I will always remember Laine's kind, gentle, smile, humanitarian ways, and personable disposition, even during her struggles. I am so grateful that we spent time together at our 50th SCSU Reunion. Our conversation at our Sunday morning Reunion worship, exuded her strength and eternal beauty. She is already missed; her memory will forever be embraced. Condolences to Mr. Jackson, Lauren, Chick, Marvin, Debbie, Joyce, Tony & Terri, and the rest of her family. She is in God's restful care.
My favorite instructor at SCSU! She is the real reason why I didn't quit and go home. I am so sad to hear of your loss. She is gone but never forgotten. I love you Mrs. Sanders-Jackson.
Elaine, Lauren, Stephanie, and I have so many wonderful memories together from taking the girls to the Nutcracker each year to sleep overs. It is hard to imagine that you are not here physically anymore. I wish you love and peace in the ancestral realm. Love you always. Gloria Swindler Boutte
