Memorial services for Mr. Reginald L. "Reggie" Johnson, 49, of Brooklyn, New York, will be held 9:00 am Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Simmons Funeral Home Chapel, 2868 Columbia Road, Orangeburg.
Mr. Reginald “Reggie” L. Johnson was the son of the late Lawrence Carns, Jr. and Annie L. Hodges. He was the grandson of the late Lawrence Sr. and the late Janine Carns and the late Ernest Johnson and Maggie Lou Johnson.
He was born on October 3, 1969 in Orangeburg County; SC. Reggie departed this life on Monday, September 9, 2019 at his home in Brooklyn, New York where he resided with his daughters Chantel and Nakia.
Reggie attended Bowman Elementary School and graduated from Bowman High School in 1987, where he participated in the JROTC. In 1987, he enlisted into the United States Navy where he served as an engineer for 4 years and was honorably discharge from the United States Navy.
On September 29, 1991 Reggie married Merlyn Philbert of Brooklyn, NY. The 20 year union was blessed with two additional daughters. In 1995, he joined CORE Services Facility at JFK Airport and faithful served as an Engineer for 21 years. Upon retiring, he joined the New York Transit Authority (MTA) in 2016. He was a faithful employee until his declining health in 2018. Reggie was a friendly, cool, kind and mild-mannered gentleman who had a "heart for photography!" His happy spirit afforded him many lifelong friends, they include but, not limited to Conrad Felks, Elroy Johnson, Derek Gary, Matthew Summers, Pamalia W. Schofield, Gary Narain, and Clay Bradley.
Reggie leaves to cherish loving memories: his children, Chantel and Nakia Johnson, Caleb Brice Johnson of Brooklyn, New York and Nandi Branford of Monterey, California; his loving parents, Annie L. Hodges of Bowman, SC; Cleveland Hodges, Jr. of Orangeburg, SC; three sisters: Cynthia J. Johnson of Columbia, SC; Marvette J. Abney of Orangeburg, SC; Carolina Nicole Hodges of Bowman, SC; three brothers: Leroy (Tonya ) Carns, Myron (Tonya) Carns, Andrew M. (Natisha Lottia) Carns of Charlotte, NC; and a host of great uncles great aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Family and friends may call at the residence of his mother and grandmother, Mrs. Annie Lee Hodges and Mrs. Maggie Johnson, 114 Toronto Ln., Bowman, SC or Simmons Funeral Home and Crematory of Orangeburg, SC.

HE ANSWERED YOU AND CALLED YOUR NAME, ALTHOUGH YOU WILL BE MISSED BY MANY, YOU SOUGHT HIS PROMISE AND TRAVELED ON.NOW, LIFE TRANSITIONED NOTHING LESS GAIN, FOR HIS LOVE, GRACE AND MERCY IS ABOVE ABUNDANT NOW, FOREVER MORE WILL REIGN.
