Funeral services for Mr. Joe Joseph Snell, 69, of 2121 Ivy Road, Orangeburg, SC, will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Simmons Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel, with internment to follow in Cameron Cemetery, Cameron, SC. Reverend Dr. Georgeann T. Pringle is officiating.
Joe Snell, the son of the late Willie and Rachael Glover Snell, was born on August 12, 1952, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. On Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at MUSC, God summoned his angel to reward him with heavenly wings to fly away from this life to enter the Golden Gates of Glory.
He received his early education in the public schools of Orangeburg and furthered his education on the collegiate level. He was a 1970 graduate of Wilkinson High School and went on to earn an associate’s degree in automotives from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.
He was employed at Greenwood Mills for 11 years and retired from Gulbrandsen Chemical Manufacturing after 24 years. He also worked for Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five at William J. Clark Middle School for 5 years, until his health declined.
He was baptized at an early age at St. John Baptist Church in Cameron, South Carolina. He later met the love of his life and became affiliated with Good Hope AME Church, Cope, South Carolina, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Georgeann T. Pringle. Joe was passionate about health and fitness. He enjoyed going to Gold’s Gym to work out, racing cars, and participating in car shows. He also had a passion for helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings: Gloria Bryan, Glenda Burke, Willie Snell, Jr., Shellie Green and Margaret Moore.
Joe leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Andreal Polite Snell of 27 years; four siblings: Evelyn Smith of Bronx, NY, Daisy Yates of Long Beach, NY, Emma Snell of Freeport, NY and Tommy Snell of Orangeburg, SC; three brothers-in-law: John Albert Polite and Daniel Lee Polite both of Orangeburg, SC and Jimmy Johnson of Long Beah, NY; one sister-in-law, Joelyn Whitmore of Aiken, SC; four special nieces: Felecia Brown of Freeport, NY and Ikeescha Snell, Danyell Boneparte and Anitra Rivers all of Orangeburg, SC; a special nephew, Kedrick Burke of Orangeburg, SC; a very special couple in his life, Herbert and Beverly Frazier; three godchildren: Shamar Frazier and Ambriel Frazier of Cope, SC and Jennifer Johnson of Orangeburg, SC; very special friend, Robert McMichael of Orangeburg, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Family and friends may visit the residence of his wife, Mrs. Andreal Polite Snell, 2121 Ivy Road, Orangeburg, SC, between the hours of 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily. A mask must be worn when visiting the residence.
