Obituary For Mr. Hosea Johnson

Funeral services for Mr. Hosea Johnson, Jr., 82, of 608 Mimosa Drive, Orangeburg, SC, will be held at 12:00pm, Monday, January 6, 2020 at Hickory Hill Baptist Church, 4626 Neeses Highway, Neeses, with interment to follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Cope. Reverend Rickey James is officiating.

Mr. Hosea J. Johnson, Jr., the son of Hosea and Lucia Mae Johnson, Sr., was born March 9, 1937. He departed this earthly home on Wednesday, January 1, 2020.

Hosea was educated in the public schools of Orangeburg County and was employed as a truck driver by Rae Construction Company of Orangeburg, South Carolina until retirement.

Hosea was a member of Hickory Hill Baptist church, where he was a Trustee and served on the usher board for many years.

“Sonny,” as he was affectionately known by those who knew him, enjoyed cooking on the grill, driving his truck, and spending time with his family.

Hosea was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie Sharperson Johnson; and four siblings: Lizzie Monroe, Lena Waymyers, Pearline Johnson and Merline Johnson.

Hosea leaves to cherish fond memories: two daughters: Marie J. (Hubert) Colter and Da’Jannae Johnson both of Orangeburg, SC; four sons: Samuel (Tina) Sharperson of Orangeburg, SC, Charles Johnson of the home, Michael (Mary) Johnson of Columbia, SC and Donald (Darlene) Johnson of Orangeburg, SC; three sisters: Nancy McMichael, Vernell Johnson and Doris Burgess; two brothers: Herbert Johnson and Frank Johnson; ten grandchildren: Samuel Sharperson, Jr., Hubert J. Colter, Brenston Sharperson, McKenzie Polite, Justin Bradley, Akeen D. Johnson, Antwan Nelson, Jr., Shawnee Colter, Courtney Johnson and DaNisha Johnson; one special sister-in-law, Flossie Williams; many other sisters-in-law; a host of brothers-in-law, six great-grandchildren; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Johnson passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at his residence.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 2:30pm – 7:00pm.

Friends may call at the residence, 608 Mimosa Drive, Orangeburg or Simmons Funeral Home and Crematory of Orangeburg.
