Funeral Services for Mr. Freddie James, 83, of 1023 Pineland St., Vance, SC, will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Simmons Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel, 2868 Columbia Rd, Orangeburg, with interment to follow in Heavenly Rest Memorial Park. Rev. Nina Washington is officiating.
Mr. James was born on August 25, 1935. Freddie was born in Calhoun County, South Carolina, but lived most of his life in Orangeburg County, SC. He was the son of the late Emily Glover James and Automon “Backus” James. He departed from this life on June 2, 2019 at Agape Hospice House in Columbia, South Carolina.
Freddie lived with his mother on Edisto Drive off of Stroman Lane for many years. In 1981, he moved to Vance, South Carolina and was a resident there until his passing. He resided with and was in the care of Betty Mae Garner.
He was well liked by those who knew him. He worked as a day laborer for many people. Most people called him “Uncle Freddie”.
Those left to cherish fond and loving memories of Freddie are: two nephews, Frederick (Doris) James of Greenville, South Carolina and Rondell “aka” Don of Orangeburg, South Carolina; cousins and caregiver Betty Mae Garner of Vance, South Carolina.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 9:00 am to the time of the service.
