Funeral Services for Mr. Adam Green, 88, of 505 Seawright St, Orangeburg, SC, will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, October 3, 2019, at St. Stephens United Methodist Church, 4500 North Road, Orangeburg, SC with interment following in Belleville Memorial Gardens. The officiating ministers will be Reverend Frank James and Reverend Archie Fair.
Mr. Green will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Adam (Preacher) Green Jr. was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina on October 7, 1930. He was the son of the late Mrs. May Ellen Sistrunk Green and the late Adam Green, Sr. He departed this life on September 26, 2019 at The Regional Medical Center.
At an early age, Adam joined St. Stephens United Methodist Church where he received religious and spiritual guidance and served as a class leader.
Adam was educated in the public schools of Orangeburg County. He enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on April 30,1963. He later graduated from O.C. Tech with certifications in Auto Mechanics and Welding. He retired from U.S. Plywood after 30 years of service. He was employed with South Carolina State University and the County of Orangeburg until his health failed.
He met Thelma Lyons and they were married in August of 1959 and to this union four children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sisters: Mazie Baker, Willamena Scott, Minder Green Ferrell, and Brother Thomas Green.
Adam is survived by his devoted wife, Thelma Lyons Green of 60 years; son, Carl B. Green of the home; daughter, Linda (Rev. Archie) Fair of Orangeburg, S.C.; son, Herman (Bridgette) Green of Columbia, S.C.; son, Calvin (Mechele) Green of Orangeburg, S.C.; one Sister, Martha Green Murell of Orangeburg, S.C.; one Brother-in-Law, Milton Murell of Orangeburg, S.C.; one Sister-in-Law, Ruth Mayes of Orangeburg, S.C.; grandchildren: Amanda (Curtis) Fair-Coles, Brian Green, who was raised in the home, Akeia R. Fair, DeShounge Green, Meisha Green, Nyesha Green, Tyesha Green all of Orangeburg, S.C., Frederick Chambers of Atlanta, G.A. and Treyvion Peters of Columbia, S.C.; one special Grandnephew, Terrance Mayes whom Adam helped raise in the home; nine Great grands and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held 12:00 pm- 8:00pm Wednesday, October 02, 2019.
Friends may call at the residence of his wife and daughter, Mrs. Thelma Green and Mrs. Linda Fair, 1160 Cleckley Blvd., Orangeburg from 5-7 pm daily or Simmons Funeral Home & Crematory of Orangeburg.
