Glenn Smith was born on March 5, 1962, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Sr. and Flora Mae Hudson Smith in Sylvester, Georgia. As a child, Glenn loved to be outside and explore. His laughter was contagious and anyone around him could feel it. He always made people smile. Glenn loved to feed the people in his community. He loved his family and loved to gather for family functions. His favorite saying was “Trouble don’t last always”. Glenn loved life and he loved people; he never met a stranger. His daily prayer was for people not to be hungry. Glenn was educated in the Worth County School System and graduated from Worth County High School with the best class ever, The Class of 1980. He was an active member with his class, and they often referred to him as the “Kang”. Glenn worked as a firefighter for The City of Sylvester for over 21 years, where he was the first African-American to become Captain in Sylvester. He also worked for the Georgia Department of Transportation for 7 years. Glenn was an active member with the Men United Club, Inc. and served as the treasurer. He loved the City of Sylvester, The Worth County Rams, The Georgia Bulldogs, The Atlanta Falcons but most of all, he loved his Family. Glenn, along with his family, joined the First African Baptist Church in Sylvester, Georgia. The members often referred to a certain section of the church as “Smithville”. Glenn loved driving the church van and feeding his passengers. He served with the Food Ministry in the church and was known to get the ice, get the drinks and run errands for that ministry. On Friday, October 1, 2021, God called Glenn home to take his rest. His wife, Marcia Smith, was at his side. He is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Smith, Sr. and Flora M Smith, and a sister, Tracey Sindy. On November 20th, 1990, Glenn married the love of his life, Marcia Thomas. The love between them was so evident as she nursed him until the end.
