Rosalind Ann Elizabeth (Rogers) Jones, passed away peacefully on Good Friday, March 29, 2024, at The Laurels at Bon Air, Richmond, VA. Ros, as she was affectionately known, was born on April 8, 1930, to the late Ruth (Brooks) and Percy Rogers. She attended Maggie Walker High School, graduating class of 1949 and attended Virginia Union University. Her marriage to the late Ormsby Jones, Jr. precipitated her move to Paterson, NJ. Through this union, they had one adorable daughter, Portlyn Jones, who died at a young age.
Ros held a more than 25-year career with the A&P Company and post retirement, worked in administration for the City of Paterson, Department of Recreation and Parks. She also volunteered for the Department of Recreation and Parks, Richmond, VA and was a regular member of the Battery Park Community Association. Ros was a longstanding member of Fidelity Chapter No. 16 of the Order of Eastern Star P.H.A. for the Jurisdiction of NJ, Inc. Ros had a personal friendship with the then Mayor of NJ - she would always lovingly say that he started out as her paperboy.
Anyone who knew Ros quickly learned how much she loved to travel and for years, she coordinated multiple cruises from New Jersey to Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America. She enjoyed meeting people and exploring new places and cultures. She was fortunate to participate in many of her high school class reunions. Ros also enjoyed decorating, especially at Christmas, and her home was always filled with treasures from her travels. She loved event planning for all types of celebrations. Her close friends note that she was a good listener and judge of character.
Our family would like to extend a deep appreciation to the staff of The Laurels at Bon Air and James River Hospice who provided care to Ros these last few months. As a family, we will be forever grateful for the support and kindness shown. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Percy Rogers, Jr., Anthony Rogers, and Wilnette Rogers Scott. Ros is survived by her brother, Clinton D. Rogers, Sr., sister-in-law, Vivian Tarry; brother-in-law, Joseph Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. For the past several years, cousins, Corliss V. Archer and Janice V. Bowie supported Ros with caregiving.
Her remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., where viewing will be held on Sunday, April 7 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. The family will receive friends at Scott's Chapel on Monday, April 8 from 2 p.m. until the hour of service at 3 p.m.
In honor of Ros’ legacy, please continue to show kindness, share laughter, and check on one another. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Ros’ name to James River Hospice, 9100 Arboretum Parkway, Suite 290, North Chesterfield, VA 23236, www.jamesriverhh.com.
