Obituary For Malcolm Jamaal Vasham

Malcolm Jamaal Vasham, of Georgia, formerly of Richmond, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and friend departed this life peacefully at the home of his daughter in Chesterfield, Virginia on January 13, 2025. He was born in Richmond, Virginia on June 29, 1952 to Helen L. Campbell and the late Thomas E. Trent, Sr.

Malcolm's legacy was one of hard work, dedication and a deep love for his family. A proud graduate of Maggie L. Walker High School, he went on to pursue a degree in marketing at J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College. His career spanned various roles, from his time with R.L. Polk Publishing to his entrepreneurial ventures, including his own business, AT&C Hauling. He also worked as a marketing consultant and as an independent contractor with FEMA, all while maintaining an unshakable spirit of independence and creativity.

His love for life was reflected in his many passions. He had a deep fascination with vintage cars, attending jazz festivals, traveling the world and supporting his beloved Atlanta Falcons. But above all, Malcolm’s true passion lay in his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife Janet, a loving and supportive father to his children and a doting grandfather to his seven grandchildren. As the eldest son, he cherished every moment spent with his mother, often surprising her with gifts and visits, always showing his love in thoughtful and generous ways. He had a special bond with his nieces and nephews, who lovingly referred to him as “Uncle Bob,” and his friends, many of whom affectionately called him “Rolex.”

In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Leslie James and two brothers, Thomas E. Trent, Jr. and Keith “Peanut” Trent.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janet Vasham; mother, Helen L. Campbell; children, Keisha (Emerson) Lopez, Josh Barrett and Jessica Gibson; seven grandchildren, Rajan, Caleb, Reagan, Yasmyne, Yesenia, Javier and Jumare; great-grandchild, Jumare Khairi; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and numerous dear friends.

Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. where viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 23 at Scott's Chapel, 116 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Livestreaming at scottsfuneralhome.com

You know, they say you can measure a person's life by the lives they've touched. By that measure, Malcolm lived an extraordinary life. He was a trusted confidant, a brilliant business partner, a dedicated volunteer, and above all, a true friend. Malcolm, my friend, you will be deeply missed. The world is a little less bright without you in it, but I know your legacy lives on in all the lives you've touched and the people you've helped along the way. Thank you for being my friend for 35 remarkable years. Rest in peace my brother. Eric Pankey & Family

"I have been deeply saddened by the passing of Malcolm Jamaal Vasham. He was a truly kind and thoughtful person who always brought a sense of warmth to me and my family. I'll always remember how his laughter would echo every time we saw him and the way he'd stop to chat, offering encouragement and a listening ear. He had a gift for making those around him feel seen and valued. I feel incredibly fortunate to have known him, and my thoughts are with his wife, family, and loved ones during this time."

It is with a heavy heart that I write this message. Malcolm and I have been friends for almost 35 years. He has been a part of my family almost since day one, and he will be deeply missed. My kids called him Mr. Malcolm, my wife called him my crazy friend, and I called him my FRIEND – with all capital letters, because that's exactly what he was. Malcolm had a special way of becoming family to everyone he met. His warmth, his spirit, and his presence made every moment brighter. To his beloved wife, his dear mother, and his entire family, please know that our hearts are with you during this difficult time. While words cannot ease your pain, I hope you find some comfort in knowing how many lives Malcolm touched and how deeply he was loved. We will all miss him terribly. May your precious memories of Malcolm bring you peace and comfort in the days ahead. With deepest sympathy and love, The Pankey Family

I met Malcolm about 32 years ago. We were doing business together in job recruiting. I learned a lot about business from Malcolm that I still apply to this day. He was always kind and soft spoken but yet full of wisdom. He had a mild sense of humor yet serious when needed to be. We lost contact over the years due to me moving out of the country. That was before social media. I was honored to meet his beautiful wife Janet when we met for dinner around COVID. I'll miss you Malcolm but I know we'll meet again when it's my time to crossover. R.I.P. June AKA Scot.

Sending our condolences, from Katrina and Jason Jones and family. We're going to miss you Uncle Malcolm❤️rest in peace.Love you Aunt Janet❤️ may God strengthen you and the rest of the family.

My deepest condolences to Janet and the Vashaun family. I met Malcom over 25 when my son and I moved from college in Louisiana. He took us under his wing like family. Now my son will be 29 this year so that tells you how long we've been friends. What I will always remember about Malcolm is that he always had a giving heart. I would be the one to skip out on church bc I always hosted New Year's Eve parties and he and Janet would come by my house, he would give me a church envelope with "See you in church next year". (smile) we would laugh bc he knew I wouldn't come bc I would be having another party. I kept those two envelopes and have them behind my tv on my wall to this day. Way from 2013-2014 bc they meant so special to me. It was a sign. This year I was at home for new year by myself thinking about how grateful god is to have put some amazing people in my life at my young 20 something year life to now almost 50. I respected him dearly. He was a funny man but oh so smart!

Years later My brother moved down here from Arkansas and worked for Malcolm and they fought like cats and dogs but they became great friends. I know he will miss him as well.

Rest well our dear fried Malcolm "Rolex" J. Vashaun you will be dearly miss. Janet my strength is will you on this journey of grief. Please know that although words will never heal but I am here for you. Shelly #DECATUR
