GeNienne, my condolences to you and your family. I just saw your tribute to your father and I put two and two together that your dad looked like Coach Samuels from Virginia Randolph High School in Glen Allen. I looked you up to see what your Dad's name was than I wanted to see a better picture of him. You have a very nice dad that I met the year of 1968. I was lucky enough to work with Coach at Middleton Valley Academy. I got a chance to see what a great man he was. I will truly miss our talks about health, nutrition, and him coaching me through the picks for the football pool (in which I knew nothing about football, lol) I wanted to extend my sympathies to the Samuels family. I was very sorry to hear about the passing of my friend and TPA colleague, Coach Samuels. I remember returning to school after my son was born. Coach had printed out the pics I sent him to show our staff in the teacher's lounge. This brought me so much joy. We chatted about life after school, took a class together, and always kept in touch over breaks and holidays. I will miss our "check-in" holiday text messages. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren and loved showing off pics and raving about his family. He was truly one of a kind and will be missed dearly. Gerard (Sam was all I ever called him) and I ran track at FAMU from 1964–1967. We became roommates and had the same major. We pledged Pershing Rifles together and were best buds. Sam was a wonderful person and I am surly going to miss him. On a trip to New York with my two young children, he made breakfast for us and he and I had a chance to catch up on our life experiences. Mr Samuels was my track and cross country coach. There was years of fun I got to have with him. Eventually I got to meet his family.
