Leo Lewis, Jr., the beloved son of the late Leo Lewis, Sr. and Ellen Jones Lewis was born July 25, 1939. He departed his earthly life January 23, 2024 at his home in Henrico County, Virginia surrounded by his family.
He received his early education from the Hanover County Public Schools and graduated from Gandy High School in 1959. Leo enjoyed participating in school activities and will be remembered for his sports interests and affiliations.
Leo was an avid gardener. He loved working and beautifying the yard with a variety of lovely plants and flowers.
He began his spiritual growth at Brown Grove Baptist Church in Hanover County where he was baptized and worshipped for many years. He served as an usher, trustee and deacon. In May 2005 he joined St. Peter Baptist Church in Glen Allen and was a faithful member until his illness prevented his attendance.
Leo had a strong work ethic, working two jobs for several years. He retired from the City of Richmond as a truck driver in August 1998 after 30 years of service.
In 1961 Leo met the love of his life, Joyce A. Lewis and they were married on September 7, 1963. Leo and Joyce enjoyed family activities and traveling. Their travels included five continents and numerous countries.
In addition to his parents, Leo was also preceded in death by his brother, Aubrey Lee Lewis.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 60 years, Joyce L. Lewis; daughter, Tonya L. Scott (Anthony) of Richmond; Virginia; grandson, Charles M. Young, Jr. of Chincoteague, Virginia; great grandchildren, Bryson and Paisleigh Young; two sisters, Dorothy Louise Freeman (Harold) of Caroline County, Virginia and Mary Harris of Ashland, Virginia; brother, Clyde Lewis of Henrico, Virginia; aunt, Helen Jackson of Richmond, Virginia; a host of nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Margaret Woods (Johnny) of Henrico, Virginia; brother-in-law, Ralph Lewis of Glen Allen, Virginia; five godchildren, Atanya Lewis of Stuart, Florida, Nathaniel Watkins of Henrico, Virginia, Kara Jackson, Tiffany Jackson and Joshua Jackson all of Parkville, Maryland; other relatives and numerous friends whose lives he touched.
Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. where viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, January 29, 2024. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 30 at St. Peter Baptist Church, 2040 Mountain Road. Rev. Dr. Kirkland R. Walton, Pastor. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens.
