James “JayTee” Johnson, our beloved family member and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on January 6, 2025. JayTee, age 54, was born in Richmond, Virginia to Ernesther B. Johnson and the late James J. Wiggins.
JayTee was educated in Richmond Public Schools and was a 1988 graduate of Armstrong High School. While at Armstrong, he was the varsity quarterback and member of the National High School and Junior College Mathematical Club (Math Club). He was recognized by the Math Club for awards that highlighted manhood, perseverance, scholarship and uplifting others. All of these are values that were instilled in him during his formative years as a Cub Scout. While attending Armstrong, he was also completing coursework at Richmond Technical Center to become an electrician. He worked for several years as an electrician and as his expertise grew, he eventually became a master electrician. JayTee loved his work and did not hesitate to use his expertise to help members of the community who were experiencing electrical system issues.
He was a huge fan of the Washington Commanders and University of Michigan Wolverines football team. Watching and discussing football was definitely one of his passions. He enjoyed cooking, especially fried fish, spiced shrimp and his delicious BBQ sauce for ribs. These famous dishes will be missed at the family gatherings, as no one will be able to prepare them with the amount of dedication and love that he put into them. If you knew JayTee, then you know he loved collecting sneakers, traveling, but most importantly, spending time with his family. His love and affection were so deep for his family that he provided his family members with nicknames. Once he gave you a nickname, he never called you by your government name again!
In addition to his father, JayTee was also preceded in death by his brother, Tyrone Alexander and one of his lifelong friends, Charles “Chuck” Wright.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Brittany Mone’t Taylor; mother, Ernesther B. Johnson; granddaughter, McKinley; sisters, Brenda Taylor (Thomas), Deborah Wiley, Angela Hamlet and Jacqueline Cosby (William); the love of his life, Angie Taylor; uncle, aunt, nephews, nieces (devoted Dana Vaughan-Jackson); great-nieces, great-nephews, loving cousins (devoted LaVerne Braxton); loyal lifelong friends, Herbert “Pete” Allmon, Jason Wright, Charles “Chuckie” Qualk and Nathaniel “Duck” James; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
JayTee loved his family and friends unconditionally. His huge heart and willingness to help anyone will truly be missed. His infectious spirit and joy for life was contagious. JayTee's physical absence has already been deeply felt by his family and all those whose lives he touched.
In life, we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place, no one else will ever fill.

My dear extended family: I am so saddened about the passing of Terronce. I remember him as a little boy - full of energy and full of love. It is so very hard to say goodbye to the ones we love. Love leaves memories that no one can steal. Therefore, Terronce will live in your hearts FOREVER. Death leaves heartaches that no one can heal. But, God will take this journey with you and supply your needs (love, comfort, and peace) as HE wraps HIS arms around you. As you are missing him, think of the good times you had, the bond you had, the love you shared, the storms of life that you weathered together and the list goes on and on. I am thinking of you all now and in days and months to come. I love ❤ you all. Rest in peace Terronce as you rejoice with God, the angels, and all of those who left before you that you loved. Enjoy your walk around HEAVEN with GOD and the streets of gold. I love you all and will be thinking of you in days and months to come.
