Mr. Henry Martin Walters was born September 9,1939, in South Hill, Virginia to the late Robert "Bob" Walters and Mary Lou Taylor (Walters) Skipwith. Henry, affectionately known as "Motto", was born into a family of nine brothers and sisters: Robert "Rob Jr.", Edison "Red", Jeanette, Mozel, Constance, Alma, Margaret, and Mamie.
Henry attended Mecklenburg County Public Schools in South Hill, Virginia and graduated in 1957. Henry joined the United States Army immediately after graduation. Henry was a Vietnam Veteran, Military Assistance Command. He is known for his many Veteran hats that he wore proudly. He was very generous with his knowledge of Veterans Affairs. He was a dedicated member of the Military Retirees Club, Richmond, Virginia. He was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church, with the Men's Ministry, and other organizations.
Henry worked at Phillip Morris, Inc., and Continental Cable (Xfinity), but his true passion was being on the road driving 18-wheeler trucks and tour buses. He worked for Greyhound and Groome Transportation Companies for many years. After retirement he continued to work for Groome Transportation. He met his loving wife and through that union, Derrick was born. Henry and Alice had an abundance of good times with their families, friends. They took many road trips to different places including the casinos.
In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his loving wife Alice Walters and his sisters and brothers: Robert "Rob Jr.", Edison "Red", Jeanette, Mozel, Constance, Alma, Margaret, and Mamie.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter; Valerie C. Walters, his previous marriage to Mary Baskerville; his son, Derrick M. Walters (Tanya); stepdaughter, Valerie Melvin (Steve); his grandson, Justin M. Walters; step granddaughters, Lauren Johnson (Steve), and Madison Williams; step great grandson, Jaxon Johnson; sisters-in-law, Sarah Hanks and Vivian Davis, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., where viewing will be held Sunday, December 8 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 9 at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 1127 N. 28th Street.
