Ernestine Elizabeth Saunders, 88, of Richmond, departed this life January 12, 2022. She was born November 16, 1933 to the late Charles and Edna Williamson Lee. Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Saunders; sister, Doris White and brother, Charles Lee Jr. Surviving are her children, Jill Martin, (William, deceased), Charleston Saunders, (Mary, deceased) Charlesland Saunders (Phyllis), Tiby Gomez (Joel), and Rosemary Byrd (James); grandchildren, Jami Byrd, Volaun Bridges, James Byrd, II, Valin Byrd, Crystal Martin, Ciarra Saunders, Tenaja Saunders, Joby Gomez and step-grandchildren, Lamont, Alex and Zakee; great-grandchildren; sister, Peggy Richardson (Jerome); brothers, Howard Lee (Agnes), and Alfred Lee (Patricia deceased) ; devoted family friends and caretakers Brenda Taylor and Cassandra Gray, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Saunders, was a Navy veteran and loved her family. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. where viewing will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 28, 2022 at Scott's Chapel, 116 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Interment at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia at a later date. The family request no visitors at the residence due to Covid. There will be no repast.
