Obituary For Dr. Dean Climmon Williams

Dr. Dean Climmon Williams, of Richmond, departed this life Wednesday, January 25, 2023. He was the 2nd of seven children born to the union of John Alfred Williams and Hazel Johnson on February 6, 1957 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Sharon Denise Williams. He was baptized at an early age at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Nasons, Virginia.

“Dr. Dean” received his formal education in the Orange County, Virginia school system and graduated from Orange County High School in 1975. He then went on to graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 1979 and from the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) in 1983. He completed his internship in Transitional Surgery at Howard University, Washington, D.C., in 1984 and worked in a clinic setting in Laredo, Texas until he returned to Richmond, Virginia in 1986. While back at MCV, he completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine and began his career as an Emergency Room doctor at MCV in 1989. A grand opportunity came his way when he was named Medical Director at the Emergency Care Center of Bon Secours-Richmond Community Hospital in 1995. “Dr. Dean” was also a director at the Richmond Area High Blood Pressure Center on Cary Street in Richmond where he volunteered his services for more than 16 years in caring for uninsured patients. Dean later became a part of the Emergency Department at St. Mary’s in 2009. His contributions to the medical field extended far and wide, and he will always be remembered for giving back to the community

Dean enjoyed traveling with his family and attending his son’s football games and his daughter’s cheering competitions. His favorite vacation spots included Cancun, Mexico and Florida. He was an avid listener of NPR radio and probably Costco’s most loyal and frequent customer. He was a founding member of Boy Scout Troop #111 in Orange, Virginia and a state champion wrestler while attending Orange County High School.

Dean was always brainstorming business ideas, inventions and financial planning. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of South Richmond.

Dean was united in marriage to Dr. Brenna L. Lindsay on October 30, 1993, and from this union two children were born, Dean A. Williams and Lindsay A. Williams. Besides his children and former wife, Dean is also survived by his siblings, Wayne C. Williams (Sharone); Carol L. Williams-Wright (Troy); Craig J. Williams (Michelle); Todd N. Williams and Daryl J. Williams; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and colleagues.

He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A memorial services for Dr. “Dean” will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023 at First Baptist Church - South Richmond, 1501 Decatur St., Richmond. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charity in memory of "Dr. Dean". No viewing. Face mask required. Arrangements by Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd.

A mentor to many, Supportive to all, He was the one who would be there, To pick you up from a fall, He would give to you, The shirt off his back, His need for helping others He did not lack!
Dean performed numerous acts of kindness and love He was a angel sent from above He was a true humanitarian I must say, And he showed this throughout his life everyday!
I'd like to read a quote written by Maya Angelou....And I quote: "I have learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but will never forget how you made them feel" Dean was one of those people...

In closing...Dean...May you have peace in your eternal and final rest... ALL I CAN SAY IS YOU WERE ONE OF THE BEST!

Dean was a member of the Orange County High School Class of 1975, he represented our class well and was liked by all. He excelled in athletics and was a State Champion wrestler. I am saddened to learn of his passing. Jeff Crane

A tragic loss condolence to the family

I offer my sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Williams. Dr. Williams was the first physician to work in the Emergency Room at Richmond Community Hospital. He was knowledgeable, caring and vivacious in his approach to each patient. He will be missed.

Dr. Williams is one of my high school classmates. He was a true friend and an exceptional person back then. Our class is so proud of his accomplishments. He is a humble and extraordinary person. Caring for everyone that he meets. My sincere condolences to his family during this difficult time. His death is a great loss to the medical community as well as to the OCHS Class of 1975. Rest in Heavenly Paradise my friend until we meet again.

I am so saddened by Deans passing. We worked together when I was the director of the High Blood Pressure Center and he was a board member and our medical director. He was so wonderful to work with. He was always ready to help, he loved to educate the staff and was just a joy to work with. I would see him occasionally since leaving in 2006 and he always made you feel like o time had passed at all. All I could think about this is that God needed another angel in heaven. I was a young man when I met Dr Williams. He was one of the kindest men I knew in the Richmond medical community. Smart, compassionate and a natural leader, he helped hundreds of EMS workers better each and every day he provided them clinical guidance. His dedication to his community was the stuff legends are made of...Rest in Peace Dean.
